@JamesALight on Twitter. Legit follow will break down tons of plays for you.

@smartfootball. This dude wrote a few good books that’ll be easy to read. Also does breakdowns on Twitter.

The 46 as a base defense is pretty outdated in the modern era, BUT this book does an incredible job of explaining a lot of the core concepts of defense that can be applied to any scheme. It’s also one of the better books at breaking down pattern reading, stunts for blitzing, and run fits.

I skim it every other year, really good.

I thought take your eye off the ball was too basic. Chris Smart’s books are interesting but don’t get into too much detail in each topic.

I always thought “Football Scouting Methods“ by Steve Belichick (Bill’s father) was fascinating. Very old school but still relevant for today. Amazing what Bill must have grown up around.

You're not going to get a good idea from one book. There is no universal book on X's and O's.

You could get The Football Coaching Bible, but it's just high level.

Best thing to do is scour the internet for articles and websites that do x and o breakdowns. There are a ton and they cover a variety of schemes.

Also, search YouTube for individual plays and schemes. If you search for "zone read" or "triple option", you'll find there are a ton of videos out there.

Just thought of something.

The first football book I read was The Spread offense by Tim Stowers. It was the first real book written on Paul Johnson/Georgia Southern offense.

I learned more about football reading that book than I did from any other. Their count system teaches defensive structure and how to spot weaknesses.
