Forget the field conditions, the effort to get that place ready for fans is probably an impossible task.

Hence why they moved the game to Detroit

Obviously. It wasn't just a "can they play football on that field" decision.

Play it
Finding the football after every play and players for that matter would be tv gold

Look, I'm just responding to all the cries that football is too pussified now that they won't let them play in the snow

Just curious, but how much snow did they have for that game against Indy a few years ago?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but snow games aren't that interesting to me. There's a novelty to it but soon you realize it's just going to be bad football.

NFL has been playing games in northern environs for over 100 years and I recall, for the longest time, one of their claims is that no game was ever cancelled due to weather.

I remember reading about one old time game that was moved into the old Chicago Stadium - where the Bulls used to play.

Is there any other precedence for something like this? Would THIS be the worst conditions any teams had ever played in, HAD THEY chose to go forward there?

I'm not lobbying one way or the other, I'm just curious from a historical perspective.

When I lived in Buffalo and drove past the stadium, it always amazed me how they got that place ready for a football game. As cool as it looks on TV, how they don't have a closed door stadium to me is crazy as hell. It's a miserable experience when the snow gets anywhere close to that there.

yes. The same exact weather event happened in Buffalo a couple years back and their game was moved to Detroit

I think it’s more about getting 60-70k fans in and out of there.

It’s all logistics. Fans can’t get out of their neighborhood, much less sit in their stadium seat. We are talking SIX FEET citywide.

They probably do it like Lambeau.

Snow slides made from steel roofing.

Not always. The last time the Saints played in Buffalo there was snow they hung 50+. Tom Brady also usually played pretty well in snow games.

Oh, yeah, I certainly get that aspect of it, but how many of THEIR FANS are they expecting to show up in Detroit. Seems like it would be almost a wash from an attendance perspective.
