Hahaha Houston is sending Philly $10+ million too. What a joke.

They dumped Lee because his contract was expiring and the rumor was he was going to ask for big bucks. Oswalt said he was willing to restructure his contract to go to a winner.

It looks like a deal has been agreed upon to send Roy Oswalt to Philadelphia with pitcher J.A. Happ and first baseman John Singleton as the centerpieces.
The teams are now waiting for Oswalt to okay the deal and waive his no-trade clause. Happ is a young, price-controlled pitcher that has pitched above his peripherals, and Singleton is an 18-year-old mashing in Single-A. If only the Astros weren't picking up a "very significant" portion of Oswalt's remaining deal, this might be a good haul.

I don't care how much money Drayton has to spend as long as the Astros get one high caliber prospect in return. They have to continue to build the system back up. It has come a long way it just two years, but there is still work to be done.
As for Happ, he would be a decent fill-in for the next couple of years when the team isn't contending. He shouldn't be considered the centerpiece of any deal between these two. The Astros aren't going to make noise in any races until the young pitchers (Lyles, Bushue, Folty, etc) come up and start to take over. By the time hopefully Happ will have already been traded.

If the Astros do send 11 million and do not end up with Singleton or a top pitching prospect then the front office will look like some simpletons here.....

MLB gurus can i get a scouting report on the players the astros would be receiving

As a Cardinals fan I'm glad the Phillies haven't quite figured out what their philosophy is
If Oswalt is his former self the rest of the year they just got a lot better... but why make a move on him when they didn't keep Lee?
Yesterday I felt like teh Cardinals and Reds were locks for the postseason because of their remaining schedules... but the east (after the top two) is soft enough for the Phillies/Braves to take a wild card

because they knew that move was a completely frick up and felt they needed to redeem themselves with a quality name.

How is it a joke? There's no salary cap. There's no guidelines to follow to pay a player. Get rid of Oswalt however possible for quality bats. With what I've read about Singleton, he looks to be a good one in the future.
By the time he comes up, that $10M will be an afterthought.

I agree
I just don't get it
The Phillies are the only well run franchise in the NL that will spend some money... how they let Lee go kinda boggles my mind

i keep hearing that the trade is for happ, a pitcher named worley and an outfielder gose. i would hate that trade. happ is 28, gose is basically bourn. hes hitting .260 at A ball with over 100 strikeouts and a bunch of steals. Plus if there is any position that the Astros awful farm system has some depth its outfield. if the phillies get oswalt and 11 million dollars plus they keep singleton then the astros got hosed and ed wade needs to be run out of town.

It's a joke because they're giving Oswalt to Philly, paying a ton of his salary anyway, and getting very little in return.

No one even knows what they're getting in return. If they get Haap and Singleton in return, I'm happy. Do some research before you bitch and complain/flame.

Rumor is Happ, Villar or Worley, Gose.
If they don't part with Singleton, I'd be very happy.
I pity the Braves..ugh..urgh!!
