Maybe, but it’s WAY harder to do it with less than a minute.

Honestly I think you run it twice and never entertain the FG. FG is asking for trouble IMO. Manningcast talked about how being down 3 is more pressure than being down 4. Down 3 you have to stay conservative near FG range.

It doesn’t change anything about the landing zone though apparently

That's a shame, I always liked that bit of strategy

Yes. I get that.

But I’m saying that if you’re only up 6, you’re still susceptible to losing on a TD. I mean, look how easy they carved that D up.

would think they could at least get a return starting at the 10-15 yard line though.

Yeah but the defenders are still just as close. Thats the difference I think.

Nobody isn’t going to talk about Slay looking completely foolish on the last play because of all the other stuff.

He left his man wide open because he was looking in the backfield for some reason.

The defenders don’t start from 15 yards further back?

Did yall debate Philly not taking the celebration penalty on the kickoff? To me that was ciriani's worst decision of the night

Was watching the Manningcast. Matt Ryan said the penalty would’ve been enforced where the ball is kicked from on the kickoff, but it wouldn’t have changed where everybody lines up from. If what he said is accurate, it wouldn’t really have made much difference. The ball would be caught at like the 10 yard line on the kickoff, and it’d play out like a normal kick return. You might even not make it out to the 30 and lose yardage compared to a conventional touchback.

If what he said is true, then it makes sense to turn the 33-yard extra point into a 48-yard extra point instead of taking the yards on the kickoff. The NFL should change it so the coverage team / blockers have to line up 15 yards further away, too, not just the kicker.

Ryan didn’t think so.

Thanks Buckeye. What a stupid fricking rule. Might as well decapitate someone after the play when you score a TD.

No. The kickers can boot it out of the back of the endz9ne without trying to kick it as hard as possible these days. Move them back 15 and kick it the hardest he can kick and they catch it on the goal lune or the 2 or 3 yardline

From NFL.com…

quote:

The setup zone and landing zone will not change with any penalties that carry over to kickoffs. Alignment of 10 kickoff team players and all receiving team players would not change – only the spot of the kick would move

It's so weird being on this side of a choke.

Fully expected them to kick the fg as time expired.

Almost seems like that would be an advantage for receiving team if returner fielded it on a run at the 15 and they had no chance to react

What happens if it hits a blocker? Dead ball?

The saints picked up an unsportsmanlike penalty that was enforced on the kickoff against the cowboys. Dallas ended up returning the ball to the 40 or 45. Anecdotal, but it’s the only example I can think of.

I think knowing you need a field goal to win, you almost have to take it on the kickoff.
