We need to end the split between LIV and PGA golfers.
Agreed. And this is a step towards that imo. Monahan wasn't the guy to get it done. The guy that said "Players that leave for LIV need to think about the families of those that lost their lives on 9/11" wasn't the guy to close a deal with Saudi's.
LIV isn't going anywhere but it doesn't need the top tier players on it. Ideally it would just be a minor league tour or a tour where washed up guys can still go and compete and receive some form of world golf rankings. Having two of the four best players in the world not competing against the best players is kind of a bummer.

I think it’s fine if some of the best players in the world, especially not Americans, want to sign a contract with guaranteed money to play a global tour with events in their home country.
There is a system where the 2 tours can coexist. Hopefully the new CEO for PGA Tour can figure that out.

Golf isn’t nearly popular enough. Two tours will never be profitable or successful
If liv wants to keep bleeding money that’s up to them but golf will never be able to sustain two tours

Use your imagination.
LIV can have less than 14 events, with schedule aligned with PGA schedule. Maybe have a team roster with 5-6 guys where Rahm or Dechambeau can choose to miss a couple LIV events & play a big PGA tournament instead
There isn’t a scenario where Rahm plays a full season on LIV plus 10 PGA events, but the goal is to have the best players in the world playing more than 4x/year.

There is drama in the first two rounds when it gets towards the back 9 of the second round and who is going to make the cut and who is going to miss it.
I'm not saying do it for the majors. But literally no one cares whether Brandt Snedeker finished on hole 18 or hole 15 on a Friday at the Valero Texas Open. Nobody.

You know who watches the first two rounds? Diehards. You know who you will alienate with shotgun starts? Diehards. You'll piss them off and gain no measurable casual viewers. PGA would be stupid to NASCAR itself.
I'm sorry but this isn't even remotely close to what Nascar has done. You're being purposefully obtuse comparing it to Nascar. Nascar has basically sabotaged itself in so many different ways. If a person is a die hard, you're not going to stop watching golf because Thursday and Friday rounds of non majors are doing shotgun starts

And if someone isn’t a golf fan they aren’t going to start watching because you add shotgun starts….

Yea I mean I'm not anti LIV and I didn't blame a single person that left. I wouldn't blame a player if they left right now for more money, it was financially a no brainer for pretty much every one of them. But Bryson and Rahm competing against the tour only four times a year is a bummer from a fans perspective.
But I also don't think LIV guys should be able to play in more PGA Tour events. They left the Tour and signed a contract with a competing league. They got their money. You shouldn't be able to have your cake and eat it too.

I'm not saying do it to get new fans.
I'm saying do it because those who do like to watch some golf those days will get to watch more golf/golfers.

I disagree with you that the majority of golf fans would rather a shotgun start format

I actually like the idea for shotgun starts on Thursday and Friday. As others said, I don't like it for majors since the all day aspect of a major during a work day is great. However, for regular events, I think it could work. Leaders don't tee off last on Friday, which means everyone is all mixed up already anyway. I think it could provide a few enhancements:
1. Less variance than having morning and afternoon waves
2. No quick turnarounds or giant breaks like the current system
3. The cut line would be more dramatic since people would be finishing at the same time
Issues:
1. LIV has around 60 golfers. With a PGA field over 100, I don't know if you can make it work with 1 shotgun start. So, you may end up in a similar situation to what they have now with morning and afternoon waves.
2. If you somehow make 1 work, the fans at the event would not enjoy the shotgun start as much as the one on TV. I feel like it is easier to miss a golfer when they are all on the course at once instead of spread out over 10 hours of the day.

Again, not something I'm arguing seeing as I doubt most golf fans have even given much thought to it. But sometimes you don't know somethings better until you try it.
I've watched LIV and didn't care much for the shotgun start at all on Sunday because you have people in the hunt for the win finishing on 16 and 17 and it just kills the drama. But it's perfect for early rounds. You're getting to watch golf from everyone in the field in a shorter amount of time. Whether you're watching to see just one or two players or the entire field, you can turn it on and know that person is on the course and not have a tee time three hours away.

Would never happen. PGA and NASCAR have a specific audience. NASCAR had to be reminded after the Bubba bullshite. A lot of their fans still aren’t back.
