He got the Bama Bump only because Bama stole him from SMU, is anyone really fooled by this?

You should research more. Keelon Russell was a consensus five-star pick and was also named MVP of the Elite 11 quarterback camp.

Previous quarterbacks to have won the MVP award at the elite competition include former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, and Heisman winner Caleb Williams.

Of the 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL, 27 at least participated in the Elite 11 event.

Let’s be fair, that list also includes Shea Patterson, Rhett Bomar, Blake Barnett, Sean White and John Brantley

We're talking credentials. So, to be "fair," list the credentials of the guys we are supposed to put in front of him. Otherwise, what makes Keelon any less of a prize recruit than the guys he beat out?

It’s unproven so I get it, but I’d be shocked if Ohio State’s QB room is actually anything lower than 5.

He certainly had some bad issues last season. Time will tell if he can correct that.

Last year his issues were because LSU had no running game and the OL was terrible. If that improves, he will be lights out this year. It’s almost impossible for them to be worse than last year. Nuss is a dawg.

Penn State? Really...?

Who does Notre Dame have? They've been relying a lot on the portal recently (Sam Hartman and Riley Leonard). Did they grab another portal player?

You’re right about the “room” stuff. It’s real annoying.

Sure, and ocean front property exists in Nebraska, I’ll never believe that yall flipping him from SMU when he was a 4 star didn’t cause a major bump in his recruiting outlook his senior year. Is he even going to be the backup to Ty this year? I’m hearing that he’s not doing so hot in the early going.

and the WR weren't great last year. Seemed like a lot of people who don't watch a lot of LSU just assumed the WRs were good because LSU always has good WRs but last year was pretty meh

Lacy was way overrated, may he rest in peace. Anderson got better. Hilton took a while to get his timing down

Recruiting and the portal should have helped that out a lot.

The fact that he was a 3/4 star recruit when he originally committed to SMU then Bama poached him and he received that commensurate ranking bump by association

He threw 55 touchdowns and 4 interceptions playing in arguably the toughest division in HS football. He won the elite 11 MVP

What's more likely, that he is a 3 star talent and got a "bama bump" or that he was initially underranked by the recruiting services?

I thought y'all had gotten away from playing both sides of the fence when Saban retired.

For years every february there was the "bama bump" conspiracy, but then as soon as Bama lost a game it was "See, Saban isn't a good game day coach because they have more talent than anyone."

It can't be both

This guy is in for a rude awakening if Russell sticks it out at Alabama.

My man, there’s a very good chance he’s VERY good.

Bama bump, the moment one gets associated with a brand like Saban’s Bama and the immediate residual effects post-Saban, their rankings and ceiling go through the roof regardless of whether it’s merited or not

No one denies they still have elite talent despite the Bama Bump Russell received by switching his commitment to them and put pen to paper. IMO next to their talent during Saban which has translated well to the NFL (except QB), the Saban mystique of his sideline presence with them really contributed to the intimidation factor they exuded to opponents and opposing fans during that run. I believe Kalen receives some of the residual effects of Saban because his retirement was so recent but we’ll see whether that dissipates or sustains in the next couple of seasons.

We’ll see, I’m interested. His senior year recruiting ranking, the Bama Bump in that ranking after he flipped from SMU, and the attention that attracts from Bama detractors will drive interest in people, Bama haters or not, watching him play if he gains that opportunity.

The greatest coaches of all-time don’t always win every single game each season, sometimes the team’s flat, sometimes the team gets outplayed, sometimes an opposing coach implemented a gameplan with his talent that worked, it’s life in college football, bro

Such a shame he’s going to get smoked like a pack of Kools week one. Clemson blowout by 3tds incoming.
