Pirates have the most $$ to spend ($16,185,700) & they will spend it.

Question is do they want to spend 10MM+ on one player, when the slot value is $9,721,000?

If they take a Clark 1/1@ 8.5MM, they have 8+MM leftover and will control the rest of the draft.

Explain this to me like I'm an idiot I'm ignorant as can be when it comes to the prospect system.

So they are going to pass on some of the best college prospects in ages to roll the dice on a high schooler for an extra million to spend on some players that are long shots to ever reach the majors? The baseball draft is so dumb.

Max Clark is a douchebag.

He really is

And PG putting him in the number one slot is nothing more than self promo because he plays with their organization. His high school team is absolute dogshit. They went 14-14 with the #1 HS prospect on their team? Trash

Clark is thought highly of and has been for a while . It’s not a huge surprise if it happens

The Nationals and Tigers would be getting absolute steals if that’s the case and rushing to the podium as soon as possible.

They were always in the running for a top player, how do you thing the Rangers would react knowing they now have a shot at Skenes, Crews, or Langford

The Nats GM is sweating bullets at the thought of having to placate the fanbase while deciding between Crews and Skenes. He was hoping the Pirates would take one of them and make his decision easier an unquestionable.

It looks like Max Clark is on steroids

Why would anyone pass on Skenes or Crews?

Bregman is an exception but most of these college kids never make it past double a

Even the hs kid, good luck, unless you are from Dominica you really don’t have a shot at the show

No because no one cares about baseball let alone the draft

When is it, legitimately what month? Is is July august? Is it soon? No one cares

Pirates should not be worried about 2024. I think with their bonus pool a pretty good case can be made for taking Clark and going crazy with over slot kids with the savings. Crews is certainly a great prospect but I think to build a sustainable winner there Clark and as many lotto tickets as you can get may make more sense. A college pitcher would be a no for me no matter how good Skenes is.

This is so fricking stupid. There is no salary cap in baseball. It’s all made up. They can pay these players whatever they want. They should easily take the best player available. This “not sign-able” bullshite is because the team chooses not to. The owners are multi-billionaires and they can write a check.

MLB should ban Nutting. At the end of the day, he deliberately loses in order to line his pockets. He's no different from Chick Gandil.

Neither do I but it still sounds stupid. The draft is supposed to be the #1 building block of the future. Putting monetary values for the team at a slot but not the person drafted is stupid. 1st pick is worth 9+ mil then that should be the max allowed for the player to sign to. It's an asinine way to do things in layman's terms. In sure there's some arbitrary reason they do it the way they do but to most commoners it seems a bit stupid. Any system that actively promotes and seems to encourage NOT taking the best player available just doesn't seem sensible. It's like a bizzaro world affirmative action.
