Texas also falls into the fading Blue Blood conversation.
I think being a blue blood is tied to the program, not the coach. Texas has made some bad/mediocre hires. A good coach will right the ship quickly.
I don’t think you can say the same for Nebraska...maybe even Tennessee. The Big 12 is begging for someone to take names and kick arse.

But you gotta admit, it was 1980 and Notre Dame was still Notre Dame before the Jerry Faust fiasco.
And Notre Dame won 9 games that year...although they tied Georgia Tech 3-3 (Georgia Tech went 1-9-1) that year and UGA beat them handily.
So beating Notre Dame wasn't that big of a deal...but that was your best win because the media was still in love with Notre Dame.
They were ranked #2 in the nation behind Georgia and the last game of the year USC destroyed them.
And then in the Sugar Bowl Georgia beats Notre Dame by a TD.
1980 looks like one of the worst years for CFB and like I said, voters didn't care back then about schedules, it was just - did you go undefeated? Did you beat a big name program?
I'm not saying Georgia shouldn't be proud of it but their opponents were 20 games under .500.
So it's a misconception that Georgia should've won more since then...because the title they got was a fluke cupcake schedule.

Damn, OP really struck a nerve

I'm just shocked that nobody ever talked about Georgia's title.
You had plenty of talk about BYU's 1984 title or Georgia Tech's 1991 share.
How did their awful schedule go under the radar for so long? Like WAC schedule.
I guess people just said, hey Herschel Walker, SEC...I'm sure it's P5 worthy.
Herschel Walker is obviously one of the great players in CFB history but him carrying Georgia to the title as a freshman doesn't seem as impressive now.
Adrian Peterson's freshman season seems way more impressive now.

2017 was their year; the play calling late against UGA was bizarre.
Then they just got pantsed two years in a row.

Michigan continues to trend downward, they can easily lose it.
Oklahoma has very much been relevant to college football pretty much every year for the last two decades, big losses not withstanding.
Michigan hasn’t been relevant in what, 25 years? Getting name recognition and losing to Ohio State isn’t relevant. When’s the last time Michigan won a big game? When’s the last time Notre Dame won a big game?

Because two of their rivals (Auburn and Florida) have played for five titles since then....
96, 06, 08, 10, 13
Not to mention other SEC teams like LSU (3/4 in the title) and Bama 6/9 in the title). Hell even Tenn got one in 1998.
That’s why it is so funny. UGA is the only “good team” with no hardware to show for.
Also, to your blueblood comparison:
Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Nebraska all have played and won multiple national titles since 1980. Michigan has a title in 97 after awhile.

Playing was different because Michel and Sims were hurt. Not much of a passing game left and half our running attack out.

I think he was referring to OU in the Rose Bowl.

OU and Texas stopped emphasizing defense and recruiting top defensive talent. Both programs were once known for it.
