So shutting down the program will stop child rape nation wide.

That doesn't answer the question I posed. This is a criminal case that is currently in the process of dealing with all of those involved. All the NCAA is doing here is pouring salt into the wound. It will do nothing to deter this from ever happening again. All it is doing is making everyone in the media and the general public feel better because everyone is pissed and wants the NCAA to do something.
Think of it in this fashion -
When all of ENRON broke, the CPA and Consulting firms were disbanded by THEIR governing boards, even though they were not the individuals directly involved. Same here. The AD and Univ. Administrators are being held accountable by the NCAA (governing body) even though they were not the one's in the shower.
That is why there exists "HIGHER STANDARD" language within the NCAA Bylaws. Trust me on this one, that language will be greatly expanded soon..

Guys the psu program should be put to sleep and not play football for awhile because no kid should ever have to worry about getting abused by some old man . Number 2 the people who did not tell on sandusky should really just go to hell no reasons what so ever that man should have not been cought 10 or so years ago. Psu needs to put out for this.
No child should ever have to worry about being raped at a university, in the football facilities, in a shower!

I have cried thinking about this a couple of times. These are children. Children that were robbed of the one thing that makes them so beautiful, their innocence. Children that probably dreamed of playing for PSU one day. They probably thought that being on that campus and seeing where only the players and coaches only had access to, was the coolest thing in the world. He took advantage of a child's innocence and they did nothing about it. Why is that so hard to see?

Do you have some sort of inside info on what exactly the NCAA and its investigators are up to?

ok, no one is stopping you from organizing a mini NFL. in fact, there have been others in the past. now, if your talking about this league having teams representing universitys then don't you think the universitys should have some regulatory authority? or should this league be able to confiscate the college stadiums and do what the hell they want to whenever they want to? maybe on a voluntary basis. no need for tax exemptions and legal terminology and all that "vile stuff". we could call this "OCCUPY STATE U ".

No, not exactly. When i was 7 i was in a very bad accident that left 30% of my body in 3rd degree burns. My right arm, chest and back. I remember feeling so alone and extremely scared and constantly asking the question why? I had great people to help me through my physical and mental rehabilitation and it really is why I am not a complete psycho. I have moved on in life and i feel i am a positive contributor to our society. I just think though, what if some one had taken advantage of my vulnerability back then? I scares the frick out of me.

OK dude, I've read a couple of your attempts at "humor" on this thread and I have to ask, are you 12 years old? Go back to the OT.

How will it stop it? This was an outlier situation. The only way to truly stop it from happening there is to totally dissolve Penn state university. Even then you're only guaranteeing no more rape at Penn state university...nothing more. That's a little ridiculous.

Why don't you go back go the ot

man, your response is cruel and cold. the poster has empathy for the children and you cut him down. as a father and grandfather i am 100% in agreement with him. destroying innocent children is about as low as humanity can stoop.

How many times do I have to explain this to you?

You haven't explained anything to me. You can't name anyone still involved with the program who covered up the crime yet you want the people within the program punished. You can't name any names so you just say "culture."

I haven't read the entire thread nor the Freeh report, but the NCAA Bylaws mention the principles of Institutional Control and Responsibility, and terms like "high standards of personal honor". Depending on the actions of athletic department officials mentioned in the Freeh report, it isn't much of a stretch to say this can be an NCAA issue.
