Nothing remotely close to the death penalty

The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable, the source said.

How long ago was that reported? I've seen other recent reports saying that the penalties wont be so bad. I guess we'll just have to wait till tomorrow to find out.

This is why the NCAA is a joke. Miami violated so many actual NCAA rules with drugs, money, hookers, etc. no punishment yet after a year. PSU may have broke a few NCAA rules outside of what the legal system has taken care of. All their knowledge is based on a report the BoT had paid to be done. A BoT that need to escape from the heat as well.

I think there will be some type of TV ban involved, several years. Bowl ban, several years. Large reduction of scholarships, several years. I'm thinking 3 to 5 years. Not the death penalty, but the program will be destroyed, and have to start over, which is what I think the NCAA and a lot of people around the country want. JMO.

what exactly is USC winning?

10 games last year, with "nothing to play for" thanks to Emmert and those NCAA fox ticks. Beat long time rivals Notre Dame into a pulp, and won our last game against some shitty little team accross town 50-0. How'd y'all make out in your last game?

We are also having a pretty good off-season in recruiting.

Mark Emmert and the NCAA can go eat a bag of dicks.

Probably would have made out pretty well if the last game had been against UCLA.

First, they punish a school for blatantly paying players. Now they want to punish a school for harboring a child rapist. What a bunch of motherfrickers.

They are punishing a "school" and an "athletic department" and a "culture."

You people are amazing.

I'm not a USC hater but are you really implying that somehow it was better to be USC last year than LSU, just bc we got curb stomped in the national championship game?

Miami never hired one of the best investigators in the nation to pick through their garbage and find all the information...I'm sure the case at Miami is ongoing

completely disagree. I think this type of punishment is extinct now in this day and age of huge TV contracts. A TV ban punishes the other school that they will be playing. I would be very surprised to see this type of punishment handed out again.

Please link the NCAA bylaw that states programs can only be punished for actions that clearly give them a competitive advantage. Thanks.
Not gonna link it, don't even know if it exists, but it is my opinion that the NCAA is not a legal organization. It should leave matters of law to other entities.

Whether you agree the NCAA should penalize or not they should absolutely wait until after the legal proceedings......NCAA gonna NCAA I reckon.

Absolutely. Read the Freeh report. It blames the school, athletic department, and culture over and over again.

I'm not an LSU hater, just meeting smack with smack.

I would rather be kicked in the nuts three times in two minutes than lose a national championship game again though. Been there, done that.

You can't convince me it feels great, because it doesn't.

So the "school", the "athletic department" and "culture" raped children and covered it up? Odd. I thought it was individual people that did that. Learn something new every day on TD.

"Unprecedented measures."

"Punitive measures."

"NCAA's penalizing of an institution and program for moral and criminal behavior also breaks new ground."

"This has nothing to do with the purpose of the infractions process. Nevertheless, somehow (the NCAA president and executive board) have taken it on themselves to be a commissioner and to penalize a school for improper conduct."

"He said this case does not fall within the basic fundamental purpose of NCAA regulations."

Regardless of what you feel about what PSU did...this is what I object to.

Using the PSU scandal as a unilateral expansion of power and jurisdiction of the NCAA.

If the scandal wasn't outside of their jurisdiction, they should have acknowledged that fact. Instead...they've become what they're penalizing...unfettered power. Checks and balances.

you really got me there. I would much rather beat ucla by 50 and not be able to play in a bowl game. Making the national championship is overrated.
