LOL WUT?
What recruiting advantage did they have?

I have a feeling the sanctions won't be as bad as everyone is hoping. I think that initial report using the word "unprecedented" got everyone all riled up but I think in the end they will vacate games, titles, records and lose a few schollies for several years. Nothing remotely close to the death penalty JMHO

Kicking them out and telling the to reapply for membership in so many years is not out of the question at all and in fact looks like a very appropriate punishment.
EVERY athlete at PSU should lose D1/NCAA status? The only way that it would be remotely appropriate is if EVERY athlete is allowed to transfer w/o penalty. If that's allowed, they will transfer, and PSU = SMU

Honestly, USC got off easy. Deal with it.
How do you like them apples?

this is correct

Did these child molesters give Penn State a competitive advantage? If not, then what the frick is the NCAA doing sanctioning Penn State?

Yep. There will be a lot of sandy vaginas on this board tomorrow.

the high level school admins who let this go on
Haven't they all been fired at this point (or died) and aren't they all facing jail time themselves?
Is that not enough? Keep in mind that these guys, while certainly at fault, are not the ones who started this. Jerry Sandusky is the one who created this mess with his criminal activity.

I am all for hammering child molesters. I don't believe that is NCAA's responsibility though. Leave it to the law.
Covering this up what was going on behind closed doors at Penn St is the advantage they got. Had they came out with all of this when they found out about it, the program would have taken a big hit and recruits would be going elsewhere. All the years that this was covered up was a recruiting advantage

The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable, the source said.
This is linked in the OP

Most of the games the were allowed to play in.
Posted on 7/22/12 at 10:14 am to harry coleman beast
The OP clearly states that Penn State would want to prefer the death penalty to what this punishment will be. That implies that it's pretty big.

You just want some more people punished?
Bloodlust! Woohoo!
I don't know the names of specific people geez. But it seems pretty true that many members of the athletic department had a general idea of what was going on and did nothing about it. The entire AD needs to be punished.

Is Penn State and its "culture" not funded by the taxpayers of Pennsylvania? If it makes sense to punish the current members of the athletic department, wouldn't it also make sense to somehow punish the taxpayers of the state? Or would that be insane?

I don't think that you know what the word "advantage" means.

So people knew about it and this has been proven and they are still in the athletic department? Or are you just making that up?
