No, the SEC is down too. Elite defenses is what set the SEC apart from the rest of the country from 2007-2012. They don't have those anymore.
The gap is small between the SEC and the Big 12, IMO. However, that gap will get a little larger next year. Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss are going to have nasty defenses.
It goes in cycles and trends. Defense is about to start trending back.
