That write up is super biased.
He faced 40 weeks in juvie if convicted had he not pleded guilty. That's worth fighting IMO if I'm 100% innocent.

I used to hate on him as much as anyone but I honestly think he's innocent now.
Sure was nice of them to bench him in the CWS last year though.

Do you even Brian Banks, bro?

6 year olds aren't allowed to bring you to court. I would imagine the filing was by the mother on behalf of the child.

I'm not saying he's innocent, but these child sex cases have the highest rates of false pleas
There are some crazy cases in history where the adults plant the idea in the kids' heads and the prosecution just runs with it without questioning.
I have no idea what happened in this case but shite, read the McMartin case - the longest and most costly criminal trial in the history of California. It's crazy what parents can allege and the State just goes along.

After six years of criminal trials, no convictions were obtained, and all charges were dropped in 1990.
So it's not out of the question for an innocent person to take a plea deal if they can't afford to fight prosecution for a long period of time.

Was the child deposed and/or give a statement to authorities?

Wasn’t the reason this all came out was some paper found his record and he didn’t register in Oregon? But wasn’t really needing to as he was told by the Washington Court and completed the program?
Posted on 4/4/18 at 2:48 pm to sms151t
Yeah.
He forgot to register because apparently he thought he didn't have to.
It's still difficult to believe he would take a plea if he really was innocent.
Because now he has a Scarlet letter on him for the rest of his life.

I think he forgot to file a form.
His conviction was supposed to be sealed.

Depending on the sealing statutes in Oregon, it may have been the right call.
He just messed up by not filing.

The Oregonian dug it up.
quote:
After those initial interviews had been conducted, Moran performed a routine background check - something we do on profile subjects. He ran Heimlich's name through the Oregon courts database and came up with this: Heimlich had been cited in April for failing to update his sex offender registration in Benton County.
Eta..

And since 1997, Oregon has required people convicted of felony sex offenses elsewhere as juveniles to register as sex offenders here.

Most juvenile cases are kept sealed. But Washington considers the type of crime Heimlich committed to be so serious that the records are not confidential for juvenile offenders.
Eta...thats from the same story I just linked.

kids brains are also so malleable they truly end up believing the story
they're primed by counselors and police into believing the narrative is true
our minds, especially our memory, are not the steel traps we like to believe they are (And this is exponentially worse in our youth)

That somewhat read as a hit piece. The Editor sounded like he was glad they trashed him.
Especially discussing why he ran the piece even though he sparingly mentions he completed the program
