Giannis is averaging 29.9 PPG so will need to score 35+ points in his last game to join this club

Embiid is averaging 30.4 PPG so just needs to score at least 2 points in his last game to maintain a 30PPG

Here are the 5 players who have made an all-defense team the same year they averaged 30+ PPG:

Michael Jordan (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996)
Kobe Bryant (2003, 2006, 2007)
Dwyane Wade (2009)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1971)
Jerry West (1970)

So yeah, MJ had 7 such seasons and everyone else combined have done it 6 times.

MJ also led the league in scoring in 1997 and 1998 and was first team all-defense but only average a mere 29.6 and 28.7 PPG in those years respectively...what a scrub.

Jeebus. As good as Jordan was, is he under rated? 30+ and first team all defense?

Circular reasoning. First team all-defense is a subjective rating. Under-rated would entail not getting all-defensive team selections when one deserving of it.

No, he isn't under-rated. He is overrated, IMO. He never had a winning season without Pippen. 5 seasons without Pippen and his team had a losing record in all 5.

I brought up how Jordan won 7 straight scoring titles, took 2 years off and then won 3 more scoring titles. During those 10 scoring titles, he was all nba defensive 1st team 9 times. You have to combine 3-4 great players to match that accomplishment. Imagine if he didn’t take those 2 years off.

Only 2 players have done it more than once: MJ & Kobe

I mean, I wouldn't go so far to say Jordan is overrated but Pippen is definitely criminally underrated.

Are we just ignoring that lebron also has 30 ppg this season? I haven’t been watching, but assume he has played defense at a high level

Welcome to MSB Mr. Pippen. Seriously though Pippen I don’t think gets enough credit. Jordan got most of the credit deservingly so but without Pippen I don’t think those Bulls teams would of won the championships that they did.

if Lebron makes an all-defense team this year, the shite is rigged.

Bam, Giannis, Jaren Jackson, Draymond, Herb Jones, Jimmy Butler, Robert Covington, Jae Crowder...etc all deserve it over Lebron.

I understand your post is sarcasm, but let's look at Bron's stats anyways. LeBron hasn't played good defense this season. He ranks 192nd in individual defensive win shares (very important stat when determining individual defensive contributions) and 471st in defensive rating. Furthermore, his team is ranked 22rd in defensive rating.

The old Superfans bit about asking how many points MJ would score if he spent the entire game in a BarcoLounger comes to mind.

It wasn’t really hyperbole given what Jordan was capable of.

Both Giannis and Joel has played spectacular all season.

But as good as they've been, it's a possibility that neither guy even wins MVP this year.
