One of the greatest if not THE Greatest EFFORT plays ever

Just bumped into this play again and it never ceases to amaze me when I watch it.
I mean really, it's crazy. Champ Baily is fast. Like REAL frickING fast. I gotta believe if we lined up Ben Watson next to Champ to run the 100, champ beats him by 3-5 steps.
At least, that's what I would assume but watching this, you almost wonder if that day, Ben Watson was a 4.1 sec 40 guy.
Ben Runs about 120 yds to catch Champ who ran about 100.

He had so much talent but he couldnt catch a cold

Gronkowski and hernadez came in this year and showed what he should have been doing

I don't remember this play. Was it in the playlets? Did time expire during the run or were the broncos unable to convert the TD on the goaline? What was the significance?

MEH
Broncos scored. The significance really is in enjoying the effort. IE, had the ball gone out of the EZ, the Pats would've gotten the ball back.
Basically, it's a play that no one would've questioned had Watson stopped running at the 50 yard line. He put that effort in on the SLIGHT chance that A)He'd catch him and that B)It would matter.
THAT'S called playing the game right.

No doubt it was a great hustle play and pertains to your thread, just wondering the significance since Kraft and company made it seem like that play got them into the superbowl or something. So the broncos still scored the TD and the pats still won the game? Was this even in the playoffs?

Playoffs. Broncos won. So yeah, it's nothing more than a great effort play.
I just enjoy watching it because if I were coaching, I'd show that damned play to my teams EVERY year. I'd probably tell them, "I don't expect you to always make great plays like this but I DO expect you to put in the same effort!"

They did some scientific/math equasion thing that said his did hit the ball out the endzone so the pats should have gotten the ball back but you couldnt tell in live action or the replay

Obviously I know he wasn't 4.1. My point is, on that play, I don't know WTF happened but he freaking closed on Champ Baily.
Honestly, that play looks like one of those "man lifts car" kind of things where if it wasn't in the heat of the moment, I don't think Watson could close from that same place if he was given 100 more tries.

Some of this is probably due to the difference in speed running the 40 and speed while wearing pads. The NFL should make everyone wear pads while running the 40 to get a true idea about game speed.

Dude. Just a pure hustle play. He didn't know if the Pats would be able to get the ball back or stop them or what. He didn't care. He made a play for the sake of the game.
That's what it's all about. The outcome of the game be damned. People will remember that play before they remember the score of the game.

Awesome. I love how it's not just pushing him out either, he hits him pretty good, uses that head of steam to do work
