1972 Gold Medal basketball: USA - USSR Soviets were afforded three opportunities and were able to 'defeat' the USA, 51-50.

Meh!

Here we are nearly 60 years after the fact, and Kennedy is still touted as a hero of The Cuban Missile Crises even though he had Khrushchev's nuts dragged across his forehead.

Take your "L" and move on.

Having his request that the Jupiter ballistic missiles be removed from Turkey repeatedly denied, Khrushchev made a trip down to Cuba,...only this time he brought "Luca Brasi" with him in the form of SS-4 and R-14 ballistic missiles, and he assured President Kennedy that he either remove the damn missiles from Turkey or he would have the blood of the entire population of the southeast US on his hands.

This set in motion a whole series of "13 Days" propaganda BS solely for Kennedy to save face even though the final tally will for ever remain:

Khrushchev 1
Kennedy 0

Yep. The whole JFK mystique is as big of a sham as Obama's. The Navy was going to court-martial his arse for the PT109 incident until Papa Joe got the RKO Studios PR machinery going to work selling JFK's actions as heroic. Then, he was consorting with a Nazi spy and Papa Joe hushed that up.
The best thing that ever happened to the Kennedy mystique was 2 bullets.

This summer I met a guy from the 72 team, 7'4" center Tommy Burleson. This is also the story where I tell a #3 pick in the NBA draft he could've been a hell of a drywall finisher He works in the building department in Avery county, North Carolina. I did know of his Olympic background, but was clueless on his draft position.

Things we didn't talk about, he was also held at gunpoint in the 72 Olympics terrorist ordeal, after accidentally walking into an area they were moving Israeli hostages. Last non terrorist to see them alive.

Yes it was.

Also the same Olympics where Mark Spitz was the first person to win 7 gold medals in one Olympics.

Sadly, it was also the same Olympics where the Munich Massacre took place (11 Israeli athletes and coaches were murdered by Palestinian terrorists).

I was 9 years old and remember it like it was yesterday. I still remember watching ABC's Jim Mckay announce the deaths of the Israelis....surreal.
