Call them South Carolina, until their marching band does a video with Fleetwood Mac no one in the rest of the United States considers them to be USC.

If SMU wins the ACC CG, who’s getting that 12th spot? It seems clear Bama/Ole Miss/USC will be arguing for that 12th spot.

This is why the whole set-up is a joke. None of those 4 teams remotely deserve a top 4 seed.

We're gonna have to go thru 2-3 years of untested teams being over-ranked and then stomped in the playoffs before they figure out (again) that nobody wants to watch SMU get trucked by 49 in a playoff game.

I'd rather watch SMU get trucked than watch a 3 loss team that finished 5th in their conference win a playoff game honestly because at that point the regular season is meaningless.

Lol. Ok then let's all just schedule 12 cupcakes. That's kind of a silly thought process. If you could normalize strength of schedule sure. It's an imperfect system but watching a 1-2 loss team get trucked would never be better than a 3 loss team winning a playoff game.

or we could put the good teams in some kind of group where they play each other and then take the ones that perform the best in that group and put them in the playoff. we could call it a conference.

South Carolina deserves the playoff way more than Alabama.

When Florida State was fricked out of the playoff in favor of Alabama, the rationale given was that FSU was not the same team due to their quarterback injury. Well by the same logic, it can easily be argued that if Lanorris Sellers had not gotten injured in the LSU game, South Carolina would be 10-2 and ahead of Alabama.

Alabama has also benefited in the past from the "Who is the better team RIGHT NOW?" argument. Well, South Carolina has them there as well.

The thing is, this 12-team playoff is designed for the committee to be able to gyrate in darlings like Notre Dame and Alabama pretty much any time they want.

frick the whole rotten mass.

What about all the other not as good teams that play in a conference with other not so good teams? Should we applaud teams that get beat by 30 getting in over a team that could win a couple games?

Bama will always get the nod over most other teams, whenever possible. Haven’t you learned this by now?

they can lose in the playoffs like along with the 10 other teams that don't win the championship. are you equating making the playoffs to winning a trophy? if they get in and lose, cool, they werent the best team.

Hate to break it to you , but if a 9-3 team gets and at-large it's going to be Bama. Deserving or not.Period. End of story

So you're saying you don't want the best teams in the playoffs. Just say that pussy.

the best teams from each conference will be in the playoff. who cares if the 4th best team from one conference is better than the best team from a different one?

I bet you hate the wild card in football and baseball too because they never win championships. You're a moron.

best is arbitrary anyway, a team can be better than a team one day and lose to them the next day.

what sport has a wildcard that allows the 4th best team from a division to get in?

I thought the point of this whole thing was to get the best 12 teams on the field.

5. Boise/UNLV winner, possibly Tulane if UNLV wins.

After Tulane's loss to Memphis, they're not getting in even if UNLV wins. And honestly even if Tulane hadn't lost that game you could still make a case for UNLV if they win a rematch with Boise, UNLV went 2-1 against their P4 opponents, Tulane went 0-2. Barely lost to Syracuse and Boise for their losses, and would have avenged the Boise loss if they win the MWC.

But with Tulane losing, there really is no argument for them over an 11-2 UNLV. The MWCCG is a de facto play-in game for the playoffs.

Bottom line, there is no chance that the committee puts in a team that lost to Alabama and has the same record as Alabama in the playoffs instead of Alabama. There is just no way.

They let Bama in last year because of a QB injury.

Why can’t South Carolina get the QB injury excuse for their loss to LSU?

Alabama played all of their starters in their Ls

Also South Carolina is hotter now than Bama. These are easy decisions based on “the committees” own decisions in the past
