The first order of business is Gilgeous-Alexander. The MVP is eligible to sign a four-year, $293.4 million supermax extension ($65.5 million, $70.7 million, $76 million, $81.2 million). Because he has two years left on his contract, the $65.5 million salary in the first year would not start until 2027-28. The extension is unprecedented for two reasons. The $73.3 million average over the four seasons is the highest in NBA history. And next, Gilgeous-Alexander will probably become the first player with a salary of $80 million or more in one season

Food for thought:

SGA fired his agent within the last year. Agents get what, 10% (I’ve heard even 20% thrown around).

What if SGA gives the team a discount, basically deducting the agents fee from his ask? That would make a difference overall.

Now having said that, he earned every penny and deserves the full amount.

I also think each team should be allowed to pay their top player any amount without it having cap considerations. Basically exempt their salary from the cap. It would only apply to the signing team and if they got traded that exemption would not apply.

Its a penalty for teams to sign their star to these allowable big salaries because it hurts the rest of the team not the star.

When’s the last time a Durant led team made a run in the playoffs. I’ll believe it when I see it.

The Thunder have so many future picks that they may actually be willing to face a year or so in 2nd apron. Their penalties will be far less than the average team because of so many future first round picks.

OKC (Presti) not only built a winner but did it and got character players. Not easy to do in pro sports.

Yea we can’t pay that crew maxes across the board for sure. Seems like it’d have to be Chet or Dub… I don’t think you can pay three max contracts and keep a title-worthy roster together. You’d have to hit on every pick like you said.

I hate to say it because on paper he probably has the most potential of all of them, but my blind guess into the future is that Chet is the odd man out of that core. Someone will pay max money for his talent and potential. And I feel like we see these really thin guys with seemingly infinite ceilings burn out bc of injury really often

Luckily that can be tomorrow’s problem

They are both staying. Next years squad will be unbelievably talented. Almost not fair.

I know we all more or less know this, but I didn’t realize the contrast was this stark.

Expect to see a lot more OKC bandwagon fans and a lot more haters the next 4-5 years.

So, Dub caught all kinds of flack earlier in the playoffs for shooting woes. He was playing with a torn ligament in his shooting hand's wrist. Then proceeds to drop a 40 piece bomb in the Finals.

Never once leaked it nor complained when he'd have an off night. Pretty damn tough.

That injury happened during LAL reg season back to back series. I was worried he’d be out for some time yet he didn’t even miss a game. Tough guy.

SGA just left an insane amount of money on the table. Dude may have a statue built by time he’s 30.

I posted this on 27th and no one believed me. SGA loves living in OKC and seems to have given team a discount.

They played 23 extra games and their off season was cut short due to the run, it will be an miracle if they all hold up through the playoffs next year.

It will be hard to repeat no matter what. Its just hard to do. Injury luck is just that. Chet was injured most of the year so has less usage as others.

Did you know OKC had the 3rd most lost player playing days due to injury in NBA this just closed year? Most don’t realize because they were bashing the team non stop and never read ip on them lol

I may be wrong but didn’t most top players play basketball for their country last summer? Or was that the summer before? I swear SGA played in some type country based tourney just last summer? As did many players from many teams.

These players are young and can do those things being in top shape. I don’t know of any injuries caused by fatigue either. I don’t think Hali’s was fatigue it was effort - he tried so hard to play thru an already nagging injury on a game 7. He will have zero regrets. Chet got hurt early season on a fall at basket making a play. JDub wrist was hurt on a fluke play at basket. IHart was hurt coming into season. Topic was out all year on injury. We still worked thru them and won a title.

Keep in mind how spread out the playoffs were. Almost too much rest imo.

Well yeah, signing a year early for $100M less over what the contract would’ve been next year is crazy

fricking love it though

This a little misleading. The Thunder played the regular season with the starting unit 8.5% of their games

SGA played 76 games
Dort played 71 games
Jalen Williams played 69 games
iHart played 57 games
Caruso played 54 games
Holmgren only played 32 games

I would guess they'll allow some more games off for SGA, but remember, SGA also skipped a ton of 4th quarters too. There were easily a dozen+ games they were up so big he never even touched the floor Q4.

It will definitely be challenging to your point, but it's a bit more manageable when you peel back the curtain.

The bigger issue is the West just got that much better. Denver and Houston are much improved. San Antonio will be better. Golden State, if healthy, won't be easy. Wolves are still going to be tough.
