Athletes who opt-in to a group licensing agreement will be able to use OSU’s trademark licenses that will start with jerseys, then go to video games, apparel, trading cards and bobble heads.

Is Herbie going to cry about how this too is ruining college football tradition? Or will he be oddly silent this time...

I really have no idea how to solve this, but I really think NIL, along with the free transfer rules, are going to change the way fans see CFB players and the entire game itself.

I think it's sad, but maybe we look back and say how great this is. I just don't see that happening but perhaps it will increase the interest in the game somehow that I'm not seeing.

I was always for paying the players, but my thought was give a % to all the athletes of the revenues off the top, so a star QB kind of gets a similar amount to the benchwarmer on the track team. That doesn't seem "fair" though so I see where NIL supporters are coming from.

What people regard as fair is generally determined by the financial consequences. It's simultaneously unfair to pay people the same or to pay them differently

I remember when all those carpet bagging yankees came down to the Dome to watch them get stomp by the Tigahs in 07. Every last one of them was wearing a jersey. I'll never understand a skinny 40 year old white dude wearing some 18 year old's jersey.

At least those kids will get a little beer money from those creeps buying their jersey now.

This is actually a big deal. It will force other schools to follow suit possibly.

For sure. However, the star QB is bringing millions of dollars into the school and the track benchwarmer (or even star in most situations) is draining the schools cash not bringing it in.

Hence why i put "fair" in quotes. It's a difficult situation to try and keep amateurism alive

Wonder how Ohio residents feel about this or if OSU even has the legal authority to allow it. So athletes can use trademarks to make money for themselves, but god forbid a private business owner do the same without being sued.

That was never going to be feasible for schools financially. Letting players make money on the free market was the only way them getting paid was going to work

The university still gets their cut.

And those private business owners can do the same.

What are you even talking about?

College football is basically going to be a free agent free-for-all every off-season now.

It's an arms race.

Every college athlete will be driving Dodge Chargers.

Schools are already doing this.

This will also allow schools to sign students to a binding contract, and prevent transfers.
