Thing that really sucks in all of this is that the players and coach involved are out the door when we have to pay the price. Really sucks for next year's seniors who did nothing wrong. It's a major flaw in the NCAA penal system.
Isn't that ALWAYS the case? And at least they were on the frickin' team!
Try punishing players who were in middle school/high school when the infractions incurred? USC?

Yes, the situation is much more blatant and severe in the Buckeye's case. Really? We actually cooperated with the NCAA. We self-imposed sanctions. We essentially fired one of the best coaches in the nation that was the biggest root of the problem. All players involved got significant suspensions. We didn't fight tooth and nail with the NCAA over paying for a star player's family's crib in San Diego and claim innocence.
If you think a two-time convicted felon-- who was not an agent btw-- paying for a house over two hours away from the USC campus (or equidistant from Columbus to Lexington, KY) for ONE player is the same as multiple parties committing infractions under the knowledge of the coaching staff, there's no reason to even discuss this.
Or as the scumbag Paul Dees, whose Miami Hurricanes possibly committed what could be the worst infractions in the history of the ncaa (including the largest Pell Grant fraud scheme in US academic history), when he ruled on the USC case, "USC should have known". Well guess what? OSU did know and tried to cover it up.
Look, I'm glad you all escaped the ludicrous power the ncaa wields. I am pointing out how utterly ridiculous the sanctions levied against the Trojans are in the grand scheme of things.

Trojan Ace, don't bother. All anti-USC people see is the $$$ amount with Bush...they can't comprehend the difference between an inside job and an outside job. That's the difference between USC and Ohio State or Miami. One is an outside agent, the other two are inside cover-ups by the head honcho and a team booster.

are they eligible to leave if they want?

it does indeed suck for those players but how else could these punishments be handled?
a fine or something similar would just be silly.

Im not saying TP lied or is OSU football. The two comments I made were unrelated.
Tressell lied and Tressell = OSU football.
My bad for the misread. And my point was we got rid of the biggest source of the problem. With all penalties and other effects coming from the entire situation, I don't get how anyone considers this a slap on the wrist. I don't think we are getting absolutely hammered either. I think we got what we deserved.

ESPN seems to think you are wrong
Just realized that this has been well discussed already. Oops.
Either way, definitely a slap on the wrist

what a slap on the wrist. I guess the NCAA is saying its perfectly okay to flaunt these kinds of things and easily get away with it.
Posted on 12/20/11 at 1:48 pm to KillerNut9
Id be fine with with no bowl ban and double the scholarship reductions.

I don't know what the solution is honestly.

Look for Tressel to get a 5 year show cause.
This is what I'm hearing from people much closer to the situation than I.

well thats def a slap on the wrist.
dont want them to misspell ohio again?

Still less than what USC got for lesser crimes.
Posted on 12/20/11 at 1:51 pm to TreyAnastasio
There's not one LSU fan on this board that would think they got a slap on the wrist if it were them instead of Ohio State. Fact.
Posted on 12/20/11 at 1:52 pm to VABuckeye
If Im an OSU fan I consider this a win. Bowl bans are meaningless. Scholarships are all that matters.
Posted on 12/20/11 at 1:52 pm to 7thWardTiger
Why you laughing? Essentially I missed on the bowl ban WHICH IS frickING UNPRECENDENTED for a FTM charge.
