Yes bama -12 or 13 straight up

Then 3 team parlay

Bama -12, over 45 in the bama/mich, and miami oh +23

Is it common practice to pick a win outright AND bet for the same team to cover? LA tech example for week one against A&M (+245) outright, and for them to cover the spread (-120).

I always put 10-25% of my dog bets on the ML.

Another long year of talking people off teasers ahead...

I don't mind teasers if they are smart teasers. Parlays on the other hand...don't even get me fricking started

How is 24 or 29 different from 10 or 15? Hell both games are listed at their handicap so technically there should be no difference

Not much but there still is a difference. I really wouldn't even suggest doing that unless you had a 3 team 10 point teaser and could tease it down around 3. Teasers should be exploited in single digit spreads

Oh, and as Chem said. There are FAR fewer key numbers to cross the larger the spread is.

Even the Wong teasers have been hurt by bookmakers' juice adjustments. Parlays and teasers simply don't pay if you don't have a Pinnacle-type (or other reduced juice) vendor...

Wong did his teasers with +100 odds. 5dimes is the only book I have experienced that still has +100 on Wong teasers

Doubt anyone remembers me, but I'm back. First full season betting, I came in around mid-season last year and had a decent year. Spent a lot of last year studying betting and different bets (a lot of times from this thread). Here's to a successful year!

Makes sense to me, but 5dimes won't allow me to parlay Bama straight up AND the over together.

I was around for a lot of the bowl game threads. Baylor Washington was a classic. I kept hedging my bets with live bets, and ended up hitting all of my original and live bets.

I did the exact same thing. I passed out halfway through the 4th thinking I lost an woke up the next morning with a nice chunk of change in my account. Great to start the day.

I've never seen a game with so little defense...

They should. You can't parlay the moneyline and the total but you should be able to parlay -13 and the total.

Ok finally get a chance to sit down at the computer for a little bit to post instead of on my phone. First off, early in the year is the very best time to hit 1st half lines. These lines don't come out until the morning of the game but offer lots of value in high point spread games. Teams like Ohio St. who are 22.5 point favorites will be less than a 2 td first half favorite so you don't have to worry about them getting up big and then getting backdoored at the end.

Also, parlays aren't a smart betting strategy against the spread but aren't bad if you string a few moneyline favorites together. For instance, if you parlay 6 favorites of -500 together, you'd payoff about 2 to 1.

Week 1 I'm lookin at the first halves for Ohio St., WVU, UGA, Florida and USCw. Also, A&M and La Tech might have a hard time hitting the over in a monsoon.

Also, there seem to be a lot of newbs in the thread this year so I'll post some links to good sites for info on how to bet and what bets are smart.

Vegas insider has a parlay calculator if you want to see what certain moneyline parlays will payoff.
