Just keep playing their game and they can take it.

we're trying to be too direct in our attacks with the lead, need more possession and better passing. string a few together and use the space

Pack it in on defense and rely on the counter attack at this point. If they score, it will be because they worked REALLY hard to score on us. It may not be exciting, but sometimes boring will win for you.

Heh, I certainly do not want to see Beasley on the pitch at any time in this tournament.

Realistically, we could play Torres for Bradley or for Clark if we moved Bradley to straight up defensive midfielder. We could bring in Feilhaber as a track-back option on one of the wings, possibly taking out one of the forwards and moving Dempsey up top as option two like against Egypt. If we give up one of the forward slots and use five defenders, we could bring in Califf as an extra central defender or bring in Bornstein and slide Bocanegra over.

packing it in on defense is just asking a team with the talent spain has to score on you. we
are just playing long ball in our counter attacks right now and giving spain 90% possession

Disagree...I don't think you pack it in yet. You keep playing your game, and then with 15 minutes left if you're still up then pack it in. Spain is way to gifted to just sit 9 guys in the back 3rd.

I think the numero uno thing we need to do is get control of the ball. On breakaways slow it down and let guys catch back up downfield and make them play some defense.

whatever subs we make we need more possession...you can't go another 45 minutes just letting them get balls in to torres and villa without keeping some possession ourselves...I wouldn't be surprised to see us get a goal in counterattack though...they're pushing so hard that it might happen

Yep. You start playing pure defensive ball you lose.

I really think Torres or Adu are perfect options to gain ball control. No way in Hell Adu plays though since he hasn't sniffed the field..and I'm doubting Torres will play either.

All i know, is if Beasley plays we will a) lose and b) i will flip shite

We're lucky they don't have three or four on us right now. A ton of close calls.

Soph,

A friend just asked me... USA soccer beating Spain... equivalent to USA Rugby beating the All Blacks? I find the latter to be more impossible.

i really hate that there's no crowd noise during build up play or after goals...instead I now know what it's like to watch a soccer match in a beehive
