Tiger put on a show off the tee, but his intermediate game left him with some long putts and he carded a 69. Missed a 5-footer for birdie and his bunker play was suspect, so he really should have gone much lower.

Johnny Miller: "The difference with Tiger now is that he's getting the 'C-word' back."

Might want to rephrase that Johnny....

We should have an exciting weekend on our hands. It's always better for golf when Tiger is in the mix, especially the Majors

He usually does one day.

I wish he would sink a birdie put and not leave himself a breaking 6 footer for par. lol.

eta: He made it so I guess it's ok.

why "should" he have gone much lower if he missed short putts and his bunker play was suspect? is the game now just becoming "ok, the best ball striker 'should' win"

Great shot on his 18th. Has a longish birdie putt but should stay under par for round 1.

Tomorrow will probably be much harder with that afternoon tee time but if he can just hang in there tomorrow that would be huge.

I'm sticking with my prediction that it's Tiger or Westwood that wins this thing at -3 or -4

Now that all of the chumps are out of the way, Rory is ready to defend his crown.

Who is this Michael Thompson you speak of?

The guy who is leading.

If Tiger gets his irons dialed in, he could win. His play off the tee today was pretty masterful, the few fairways he "missed" were just rolling into the intermediate cut.
