I won't even pretend to be in the know about tech's curriculum for athletes, so tell me this. Y'all keep trumpeting the fact that the standards are still high for athletes, and every student takes calculus, etc.

I just want to know how in the hell people like stephon marbury and Reggie ball and a whole host of other athletes are passing these classes that are apparently mandatory.

Marbury was only in school for a year. I have no idea how smart Reggie Ball was.

the point we are making is we dont accept retarded kids and when we do, it blows up in our face (Marbury).

ETA I have no idea if this is still true but in 2008 it was, GTs football team has the highest SAT and GPA coming out of HS:

Marbury was probably only there for just the fall semester.

Calc 1 and 2 aren't required for every major anymore. A large portion of the current student athletes major in some portion of the Management school. Calc 1 and 2 aren't required, but I believe they are still required to take Survey of Calculus and certain lab sciences. Oh and I think they have some Statistics courses that are required too.

All your Engineering and Science majors still require the Calc gambit though obviously.

The hill (the folks that decide admission standards, etc.) have actually been getting more strict over the years. I think I've seen where they granted Gailey or OLeary more exceptions than usual one or two years and the results were bad. I don't think they allow more than 2 or 3 exceptions per year these days.

Any chance of ever getting an accounting major there?

One of our alumni donated $50MM to the school earlier this year and one of the stipulations was change the degree from management to business admin bc that is what everyone else uses.

Oh well, too late for me anyhow. I've done a lot at Kennesaw St and am transferring to UF.
Do they have a non traditional freshman thing there, like for people who've been out of high school for more than 5 years? That really helped me with KSU, I only had to take the COMPASS instead of the ACT or SAT again.

I'm from Kennesaw.

I'm not sure about what you are asking but I do know the transferring requirements into GT are much more difficult than UGA. Honestly, this is a HUGE obstacle that no one ever talks about. UGA gets soooo many kids who transfer in from KSU,GPC, gainesville St, whereas GT gets very little.

UGA is extremely difficult to get into if you live in Atlanta but very easy to transfer into. I think all you need is 30+ hours and GPA above 3 or 3.25 and you are automatically accepted. Whereas with GT you need the same but you HAVE to have taken Calc 1/2. Even if you are transferring into the business program which doesn't require these classes, you have to take them before you can transfer in.

That's how UF is, very hard to get into but only requires 60 credit hours and a 2.0 gpa for transfers. I've got well over 60 and 3.6.

Edit: Some B1G schools are the same way with transfers, you only need a 2.0 gpa for Ohio St.

No fricking way, this is ridiculous:

Dean Buchan ?@DeanBuchan Paul Johnson has the flu. Several #GaTech players do also. "It's an issue," Johnson said. #gtuga12

At GT your major is in Management with a concentration in an area such as accounting. Recently they added business admin, not sure the difference.

I think I'd gladly trade a loss to FSU for GT winning this weekend.
