Las Vegas is not a viable option for an MLB team.
More extreme park factors than Colorado, more heat than the Rangers, less local interest than a lot of clubs.
Not sure why you would think they have more extreme park factors than Colorado... Vegas is only around 2,000 ft. elevation on average. And they would almost certainly go with a retractable roof stadium.

I think with an indoor stadium the park factors would be somewhere between Phoenix and Denver. Not insignificant but not enough to prevent it from happening. I do think local interest would probably be terrible. That’s gonna be the case wherever they move most likely. At least it would be a destination for opposing fans, something Nashville would have too. But I think MLB wants a team bad enough there with them leaning into gambling.

I disagree. The players strike in 94 is what drove the Expos out of town.... I’m surprised that Toronto still has a team.... they still had a decent team in 95 but the attendance went from like 45,000 a game to the mid teens..... the very next year........

After Tampa and Oakland the Jays are the next team with a stadium issue that needs to be resolved. Hard to see them leaving though unlike Tampa and Oakland

Toronto still pulls decent crowds when they are doing well... well back when they could have games in Toronto.
MLB attendance ranks:

2016: 3
2017: 5

Pull your numbers from 95 to 2010....

With all the population growth we’ve seen in Tennessee and the Carolinas the last decade or so you’d think that Charlotte or Nashville would be able to support a baseball franchise
Posted on 5/12/21 at 11:44 am to Paul Allen
I think Charlotte could. Maybe Nashville. One of the tweets I say had odds out for Louisville in the running. The Louisville Batmakers (Sluggers copyrighted I would assume)

Portland has less “issues” than Vegas. Portland is a top 25 market, but only one big 4 franchise. Summer weather is awesome in Portland, it would be a major success. Plus it would finally give the Mariners a true rival.
But why move from one liberal shithole to another? The future is Texas and the South. Look at the migration patterns in the US.

Sacramento - 2.639 mil
San Antonio - 2.571 mil
Columbus - 2.525 mil
Indianapolis - 2.457 mil
Las Vegas - 2.313 mil
Austin - 2.27 mil
Raleigh - 2.079 mil
Nashville - 2.062 mil
Norfolk-Virginia Beach - 1.859 mil
I think building a stadium in San Marcos to gather the Austin and San Antonio crowd could be a success for a team in central Texas.

Louisville is a big enough market for a pro franchise?

Not sure why they never get mentioned for future MLB options.

Ranges and Astros would block another MLB franchise esp in Austin area

Las Vegas IMO, just isn’t ready to have 3 pro sports teams. It’s just not big enough.
But the size of the city and the hometown fans isn't why Pro sports work in Vegas. Tons of folks who are going out there anyway will now go to a game of whatever kind is available, possibly instead of a show or just a different night. I was super excited at the possibility of going to a Saints or Texans (but my God they suck now...not gonna see them) game in Vegas and I'd be just as happy to go see the Astros play there. Vegas has a built in sports audience. A baseball team in Nashville would draw in a similar way.

I'm honestly not sure, but it was on the list of Vegas odds of which city A's move to.

Where the hell are you getting these numbers at? The MSAs aren’t nearly that for those two cities

I have my doubts. Everyone I know in the area is gone most weekends once that awesome weather kicks in.
Not many are fans of anything.
The people I know that aren't really huge outdoors type people loathe sports and are against tax dollars being used for a stadium.
Although they don't bat an eye at heroin needle boxes for the junkies at 250,000 a pop.
I love baseball and could see myself going to a Thursday night game as I pass through heading to the mountains. But that's about it.
