I've always kind of wondered how Kent State, Cleveland State, and Youngstown State have felt about that.

None of them care.

Which means...

You also compared them.

You know how professional teams and universities send very threatening letters to grade and high schools using their logo? They don't do that because they hate kids

There's a reason companies and institutions are so protective of their brand.
We aren't talking about logos or actual branding, we are talking about the word "the".

If another school calling itself "Ohio" makes you feel small, or if getting lost in the mix of several "OSU" schools makes you feel small, and if emphasizing "the" makes you feel big as the premier institution in the great fricking state of Ohio, then by all means do it.

Just understand that it's cringe AF and it screams insecurity and the rest of us can point that out. This attempt at projecting strength or noteworthiness just makes the school look weak, and I look forward to the next phase of this inferiority complex.

Ok. If someone else brings it up and makes a completely ignorant claim, yea I’ll point out how that is completely ignorant. I have to compare them to explain how it’s ignorant. Why is this hard for you?

I must say though that The OSU is well represented in those player introductions.

People were selling scarlet and gray merchandise with the word "The" on it without using the proper licensing. That's what this entire thing stems from.

No one made a big deal about it until we copyrighted the name to include "The" and everyone started clowning us.

We leaned into it. Then people started creating merchandise with it on it and the University went back to court trying to expand the copyright.

This sounds like an attempt at defense but interprets as cringe

Who cares?

People IRL don't respond when asked what school did you go to? "THE Ohio State University.". They just say Ohio State.

Only NFL players in those lame arse introductions...where some say their Elementary School, probably indicating their alma mater and reading level.

People can call a school whatever. Paul Finebaum still calls USC, Southern Cal...even though the official trademarked name is USC...

But he's an SEC guy so refuses to say USC because he needs to kiss arse to South Carolina...sorry, THE South Carolina University.

So. frickin'. What?

What's that got to do with the little man syndrome that you all seem to suffer from? I mean I guess you guys think it's cool or corny-cool or a big in-joke or whatever, but to everyone else it looks like an over-inflated sense of self-importance.

No one says it except for in the NFL intros.

The reason why the university (and any of the pro sports teams, large corporations etc., that send threatening letters) protects their trademarks is because if you don't, it's harder to win copyright infringement suits in the future.

Have a good night.

You being absolutely triggered by this like a little snowflake is what screams "little man syndrome". My goodness...go outside...take a breath of fresh air...and then scream THE Ohio State University!!!

Nahh. I'm good.

Because, after all, it is just a civilian school where young people sit in class to learn things. Some of the things are useful, many of them are not.

It's just a school. A school that has a football team.

So the players saying THE ohio st university in their intros are saying it are doing it for licensing? Ok lol

Dude, no one who has ever gone into a job interview has ever said, "I graduated from THE Ohio State University!"

And even if they did, why does this ruffle your feathers?

What a school wants to call itself is no business of yours.

I'm triggered? OP starts a thread about how cringe you are and you guys show up in droves proving him right. Talking about branding and licensing and shite, trying to downplay it like oh nobody really says that yadda yadda.

Project all you want, it has clearly struck a nerve with you guys.

Yes.

At some point, they should just change this from MSB to tOSUB.

OSU should add "I know you are but what am I?" to its branding. I bet they could get it trademarked.

I look forward to the totally-not-triggered downvotes and your totally-not-triggered response.
