That's a weird quote from the state attorney. Kinda.
I took it to mean that he knows there is a ton of scrutiny.

If it comes out that he raped her and they still support him, then I'll bash their fanbase
Idk man, think about how the girl feels when she turns on the TV and sees her former classmates supporting him
That is obviously the flip side. If one of my favorite players was accused of rape, i would remove myself from the topic and let it play out.
I agree there is not enough for everyone to assume he is guilty, but nothing has come out to make it look like the alleged victim did anything wrong following the alleged incident. It is unfair to her people are supporting him so vigorously
And to all the FSU fans who say things like "why would he need to rape her." Rape is truly about power the majority of the time.
I'm withholding my judgment of him and her. I'm not watching football games hoping he gets his arse kicked. These are real people, and this has real life implications, this is not a football game. I dont see why FSU fans can't do the same, unless they are shitty people,
TLDR; you can support Winston without siding in his rape case

She cared enough to go watch him pitch and start as the QB. And take a bunch of pictures. Allegedly, of course.

quote:Spot on. Same thing I said when the Joe Pa saga was unfolding. PSU fans blindly supporting someone who is accused of aiding a fricking child molestor. Supporting him for no other reason than him being the football coach. Its really a sick phenomenon.

This is no even close to being the same thing as the Joe pa scandal. How in the world can you compare the two?
Posted on 11/26/13 at 10:47 am to TheOcean
Im comparing the fans who blindly support an athlete or coach. Its very similar.

quote:It is not freaking similar at all. In the Joe Pa scandal, you had a Penn St coach being the one who was a witness to the rape. Making it very obvious that the rape situation happened. In this case, all you have so far is the alleged victim doing the accusing.

Where's the blind support? Really all we know is that there's an accusation and there's DNA evidence showing something did happen. That's it. Yet his name has been drug through the coals. That's why the majority of FSU fans have been so supportive.

quote:Exactly. If he is proven guilty and then the FSU fans still support him and riot, then it will be the same as Penn St. Until then, it has nothing in common

My point is that people automatically pick sides when they dont know shite. Some support the athlete (because he is an athlete). Some support the alleged victim blindly as well (because she made the accusation it must be true).

A more comparable case to this one is the Duke lacrosse team rape case.
Girl cries rape
People automatically assume she is telling the truth
Find out she's lying
False accusers pretend it never happens.

Yep, good call.
I guess yes the Joe Pa supporters were probably a little more blind than the JW supporters (at least for now).

Duke rape case had DNA evidence linked to the accused?
quote:
– Buried in thousands of documents handed over to defense lawyers by the district attorney in the Duke rape case was a stunning report from a private lab hired by the prosecution that found DNA from multiple males in the accuser's body — but none that belonged to the accused players,
Not even remotely similar

Dec. 7: A woman is offered a shot of alcohol by an unknown person at a Tallahassee bar before leaving in a cab, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. She claims to have been assaulted at an apartment between 1:30 and 2 a.m. FSU police get a call and refer the off-campus incident case to Tallahassee police, who arrive at 4:10 a.m.
Early January: The woman identifies Winston as a suspect.
February: Winston's attorney, Tim Jansen, is notified of the investigation and soon learns that the case has been "basically closed." Tallahassee police said they made the case inactive after the woman stopped talking with police — a claim her family denies through their attorney.
April: Tallahassee police tell the accuser's attorney, Patricia Carroll, that the woman's blood work shows she was not intoxicated.
Sept. 2: Winston finishes 25-of-27 for 356 yards and four touchdowns in his first start for FSU, a 41-13 win at Pitt. He soon becomes a Heisman front-runner.
Nov. 8: The Tampa Bay Times requests a copy of the Tallahassee police's incident report from Dec. 7.
Nov. 11: TMZ requests a copy of the incident report.
Nov. 12: Tallahassee police forward the case to the state attorney's office, which cannot review it until the next morning. Tallahassee city manager Anita Favors Thompson tells city officials about the case because it could draw national attention. Her emails, later obtained by the Democrat, say Winston is under investigation after a woman reported she was taken advantage of while intoxicated but later stopped communicating with authorities.
Nov. 13: Tallahassee police release the incident report to the media. Although Winston is not named in it, TMZ reports he is the suspect. Jansen says Winston did nothing wrong and that two witnesses will corroborate his claim. The state attorney's office begins its investigation into a case that has been reactivated because of new information.
Nov. 14: Winston voluntarily provides a DNA swab to authorities.
Nov. 17: Jansen says he's "deeply concerned" that State Attorney Willie Meggs was giving interviews and making "extrajudicial statements" about the investigation.
Nov. 20: The woman's family releases a statement through Carroll, identifying Winston as the suspect. The family also alleges that Tallahassee police warned their attorney that the woman's life "will be made miserable" if she proceeded in the case and that they refused to collect Winston's DNA immediately after he was identified. Tallahassee police decline to address their specific concerns in an evening news conference. Just before midnight, ESPN reports that Winston's DNA matched a sample taken from the woman's underwear on Dec. 7.
Nov. 21: Jansen says that the sex was consensual and that has always been Winston's defense.
Nov. 22: In a statement, the family reiterates that the woman was raped.
Nov. 23: Meggs says a decision on whether to press charges against Winston might not happen until after Thanksgiving.

Stopped reading right here, because it's pretty plain to see that she knew who Winston was before the alleged attack.

Yeah that has been a problematic issue for me to digest. Of course if these events and timelines aren't as true as they are purported to be, that might explain some discrepencies such as this one. That is why I am withholding judgment for those who have the in depth knowledge which the public doesn't have yet. There's a lot of mis-information floating out there right now on BOTH sides.

I just don't see how her being a "cleat chaser" is somehow an indication that he's not guilty. I could be missing something though.
