Football rules all in the south.
Which brings up a Barry Petchesky quote on the comment section of the deadspin FSU teacher article from yesterday:
quote:
There's absolutely no reason amateur sports should be paired with college other than an accident of history.
Spot on IMHO.

I agree completely. I'm not saying the Bama fans are bad people, I just don't think it is a coincidence they are the Sec fans talking the most about it. Same way us lsu fans were drooling in the corner when we thought Bama would get busted for fluker
I appreciate your clarification but it may be because JW is a)from an area highly concentrated with Bama fans and b)there is a higher level of interest in the situation from those it affects more.

I don't disagree, but if you told someone 60 years ago that there will be a day a southern town helps cover up for a black man who raped a white woman they would have said you have lost your damn mind
Oh without a doubt this ^^^ but they would be accusing you of insanity based wholly on their limited scope of knowledge as well, it's totally believable now.

Is/was that part of Florida a racist area? How would it compare to the likes of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia?

JW was not a star last Dec. Why would TPD cover up a rape for some random college athlete? I don't buy it.

Meh
All we know is that a detective named Angulo didnt do his job. I assume he is Hispanic which means he probably doesnt give a frick about racial history between black/white.
Now that its moved into the spotlight, other forces may be at work, including age old biases

Star baseball player?

And also the #1 rated QB and #10 rated player in his class.

He was a 5* QB out of high school. People knew who he was.

I'm sure there was enough to go on with his name being a "brand" already as a high profile recruit. These are cops in a position to know who he was and in a position to know what local power brokers may make THEIR careers miserable if they didn't try their best to keep a lid on the situation. JW wasn't random at that point. I'm not 100% sure of course how things went down but something sure seems fishy by their actions or lack thereof.

quote:Exactly. Which brings up this point. He was so popular the TPD was willing to cover up rape, but not popular enough for a girl to know who he was even though he was invited to her apartment by a friend(allegedly). You would think someone would have told her. That's one thing that is hard for me to wrap my head around.

People knew who the kid was gimme a break. If fournette enrolled at LSU in the summer, students are gonna know who he is. Add that he's a 2 sport athlete and there's even more hype.

Your average sorority girl, no. Not strange at all.
Posted on 11/22/13 at 8:30 am to lsupride87
You're assuming a number of things that we simply don't know.
Posted on 11/22/13 at 8:31 am to massiveattack
quote:Bull shite. They know. The other part of the story that is very strange from the victims side is how the hell did the parents allow this case to drop. How could a father just let this get swept away and watch college football on Saturday with the media swooning over the man that raped your daughter? These are the two things from the victims side that don't add up for me

The girl might not have, but Tallahassee's finest damn sure did.
Posted on 11/22/13 at 8:34 am to lsupride87
I don't understand that either. If my daughter told me she was raped there would be no way I'd shrug it off.
A lot of this shite is fishy but not looking good for Winston.

You're making the assumption that the police report accurately reflected what she told the cops. Cops frick up police reports all the time and given the track record of tally PD, I am assuming the police report is full of errors.
