As soon as these companies get their products plugged by these athletes (many of them already have 6/7 figure followings on social media), they've already mitigated their risk. They aren't paying for future clout or viewership, it's already built in via social media.
LMAO what college player has a 7 figure following? Spencer Rattler is the Heisman favorite and less than 400k ig followers and only post once or twice a month which means his post are going to get buried on most of his followers feed.
Anyone who believes that this money is for their name image and likeness is a moron. This is pay for play

I know Olivia Dunne was well over a million and I’m sure she’s not alone.

Georgia is the same way. Sign a NIL deal, lose your HS eligibility.
Louisiana as well

Joe Burrow would have been easily 7 figures his senior year. It’s not directly related to their athletic potential; it’s related to their social media presence.
The LSU gymnast (I forget her name) has 7 figure potential despite the fact that college gymnastics doesn’t have a huge following.

He should leave. I have absolutely no idea how it is still legal to not allow humans to make money from their own name. frick that.
It was never illegal in college. The NCAA doesn’t enforce laws. They enforce bylaws. To be a voluntary member you have to behave a certain way. Drives me up the wall when people say things like that. They only ever had the power over you you let them have voluntarily.
Like a dress/behavioral code at a country club.

The Jenner sisters made tens (hundreds?) of millions doing this when they were teenagers.
What is the rationale for why this kid shouldn’t be able to do it with football but they can do it with makeup or whatever they sell?
For such a freedom-loving bastion of capitalism as Texas is in most areas, this is baffling.
Because you’re limiting it to the world of a very clearly defined sport. To create a somewhat competitive balance. The salary cap in the NFL isn’t capitalism. This isn’t the free market. We’re trying to enjoy a sport and that requires guidelines to keep it competitive and entertaining.

All of this true but so are anti-trust laws and that is the issue.

Yeah, let’s just rule kids who take NIL deals ineligible
If only it was so easy

Ehhh, maybe after he won the Heisman, but no one was dropping coin on him over the summer or the first month or so of the season.

If you really think a kid should cut grass instead of taking life-changing money when he has the chance to then you're the schmuck.

A guy in my basketball group is apparently cousins with this kid and mentioned that Quinn’s dad was an overbearing a-hole. Therefore, assuming that the decision will be made for Quinn.

Seems as if this is actually happening.

Ewers is expected to join the Ohio State program for summer training camp at some point in August. He is completing his coursework to graduate, which he has already begun taking online. Some ambiguity remains about precisely when he’ll be able to start practicing, as officially joining by the start of camp on Tuesday will be highly unlikely as he navigates the bureaucracy inherent to collegiate admissions and NCAA clearance. The expectation remains he’ll be able to get eligible at some point during camp.
