Even if Nico wanted the trade, he isn’t able to execute a trade that big without the owner stamp of approval.
I don’t think these owners know anything about basketball. Nico was endorsed by Cuban because he made some good moves before Cuban sold the Mavs. The owners had some level of trust in Nico.
I don’t know if anyone asked Mark for his opinion on the trade prior but was the bigger betrayal to fans the Luca trade or selling the franchise to disinterested out of towners whose motives were questionable?

It was done by the NBA to make the Lakers better
It wasn’t and that what makes Nico look so stupid.
He didn’t want to pay the super max to Luka and he loved AD’s defense. Just a horrific decision.

“We have a guy on our team who is a superstar and will be the face of the league one day and has great potential to win multiple MVP’s and bring us several titles”
“Let’s trade him for an often injured Veteran”.

Should have been fired the day he told the owner "I want to trade Luka"
"Haha ok buddy. Pack your shite"
It's a weird situation because Luka was routinely out of shape. Even being out of shape he was a top 10 player. Then he got called out about it in Dallas and everyone kind of took Luka's side. He goes to LA, gets told he is fat by his coaches, then drops 30 lbs.
So the Mavs front office was 100% correct about what they said, but the result was terrible for the team for the future.

DEI and Nike. No one should underestimate how powerful Nike is in basketball.

Watch this be Zion when we trade him

haven't bene paying attention, how has Flagg been?
He's a good player with a really bright future. But he's certainly no Luka.

so he formulated some bullshite in his head about injuries and the future and likely actually believed in order to move him.
He was fat as frick and one of the worst defending superstars to ever play. He lacked the athleticism to effectively guard in the NBA, especially 40lbs overweight. I hate watching guys who complain to the refs non stop, even to the point of doing so as your team plays defense 4 on 5.
That said, they could have got so much more for him.

Nico is a patsy. Nobody is that fricking stupid if they have already made it to his position.
Yep
The owners didn't even want to give Luka the supermax and used this guy as a bulletproof vest for idiots and media to release their anger against.
