Which only proves that the herd is often wrong.

It would be noble for Nicklaus and Player to step aside and let others have their time in the spotlight.

I do realize that many just don't grasp this..

I get the argument for Jack but not for Player. Dude is a freak. He's in better shape than most people half his age. He's still strutting around like a 60 year old

What about Freddie, or Bernhard, or Jose Maria? There are plenty of former champions out there to choose from.

For now, I appreciate seeing the old guard out there, even though it is sad to see Jack in such condition. He has earned the privilege to do as he pleases at Augusta.

Would not surprise me in the least if he quietly declines next year though.

And 16 up votes. (proof that some here have open minds and discernment)

I think it'd be cool for Jack and Company to actually play the first two rounds to see how they do. Let them have a golf cart.

There’s a reason they stopped former Masters champions from playing after they turned 65…

There's not a cap.

Fred Couples is 66.

There is no cap, but Augusta now strongly recommends that former champs stop playing when they can't play at least to a reasonable level.

I can remember when Billy Casper, Gay Brewer, and other former champions used to go out there an hack it around for 2 days into their 60s/70s. Augusta would send them out right after the honorary starters finished.

As long as people like Couples and Langer can play reasonably, I don't think Augusta has any issue with them playing.

Btw if Rory wins this he should be an honorary starter when it’s time. He’ll be in that class

One nobody mentioned but he’s a big enough star when Jack passes… Greg Norman

This wont happen as his biggest mark on Augusta was one of the all time greatest choke jobs . Non winner will never be an honorary starter.

You let Jack do it as long as he wants to. Show some damn respect.

The ANGC picks who they want to be honorary starters.

They probably do favor former Masters Champions, but they have made exceptions.
