I think an NHL team would draw well in Houston considering how many people move here from the midwest and northeast and wouldn't mind having a second team to root for.

Atlanta Airport Authority owns about 100,000 acres up around Dahlonega widely believed to be a potential site for a second Atlanta airport.

Every NIMBY in Dawson, Forsyth, Cherokee, and Lumpkin counties would kill any attempt at an airport to begin with, and especially one that could handle Hartsfield's current operations. Delta is pretty happy in their current position.
Also, why would the city of Atlanta want to kneecap its own airport?
Agreed. That would be cutting your nose off to spite your face.
And that location is a little far out there don't we think.?I mean that's at the foot of the Smokies, an hour north of town.

If this is the mentality, it will be DOA. You cannot build an expansion franchise based around the transplants. You have to build it around the existing community.
Look at ATL United, and Vegas Golden Knights. They were explicit about having the teams become part od the community outright.
The bland, 'well Yankees live here, so they'll go' is how you get no native fanbase, and an almost guaranteed relocation. This is the mistake that the Thrashers made, initially, and didn't build their own market until too late.

I just meant that transplants would supplement the existing fanbase well, but I agree. If it was done right, I think it would work in Houston.

I think it was a good way for the city to get cheap land back then, whether they were actually serious about putting an airport that far north is a different story.

They didn't even try because ASG wanted them gone from Philips.

The only two ideal locations for a second Atlanta airport at this point are Dobbins or Gwinnett. Dobbins is the only location with a runway built to length and standards. McCollum nor Paulding have the required runway length for 747s. Something like EWR or Hobby is what we need on the northside.

Kraken were bad last year. But will be in the playoffs this time.

EWR (or really LGA) and Hobby were originally built as the primary airports for NYC/Houston and couldn't be expanded compared to simply building JFK/IAH. ATL doesn't have that issue.

747s are pretty much out of the passenger market these days (I believe only Korean Air and Lufthansa still use them) in favor of the A350. 747s are still used for long haul cargo and Hartsfield is fine for that.

It sounds like Houston will have to renovate the current or build a new arena if they want a team.

Houston’s Toyota Center last hosted hockey regularly in 2013, when the AHL’s Houston Aeros left the market after 19 years.
