Per Forbes:

Last week’s Thursday night (Sept. 8) NFL opener and Super Bowl rematch between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers drew in 25.2 million. However, that total marks an 8% ratings decline compared to 2015 and a 6% drop from 2014.

On Sunday afternoon, CBS scored a 10.2 overnight rating for its NFL offerings, a 13% drop from FOX’s numbers (11.7) last year and a 9% drop from 2014 on CBS (11.2). This also marked the lowest overnight season-opening rating in seven years

The Steelers vs. Redskins game scored a 9.1 in Nielsen's NLSN +1.25% metered market ratings while the 49ers vs. Rams posted a 7.1, according to Deadline. The early game was down 7% from 2015's MNF opener WHILE GAME 2 FELL A WHOPPING 25% with San Francisco viewers actually outnumbering L.A. That’s not the start the league was hoping to have in the country’s second-largest media market.

To sum up, CBS, Sunday Night Football, and Thursday Night Kickoff all hit 7yr lows. And ESPN MNF fell by a huge margin, especially the late game. Only FOX did better than the previous yr, thanks to the Cowboys vs Giants.

Red Zone Channel was also down 18%.

Had to plateau at some point.

Stuff like Goodell being a moron and the Kaepernick deal don't help either.

And ESPN MNF fell by 32% combined.

Because they continue to have garbage arse games. Philly vs Chicago this week?? Two big markets but nobody outside of those areas cares about that game. Same thing with Rams vs 49ers.

I am curious what the Redzone ratings were Sunday.

They debuted a team in the 2nd largest media market in the hemisphere that hasn't had football and in 20 yrs....you'd think people would watch. My guess is it was the opponent, 49ers...I know no one in my family will watch a second of any game of theirs this yr.

25.2 million is considered a disappointment?

Also some non exciting match ups. No one was gonna watch Keenum vs Gabbert or Jimmy G vs cardinals

Streaming services + NFL Redzone Channel + NFL Fantasy Zone Channel

No need to sit and watch a game when you can have real time highlights from them all. The Redzone Channel is the fricking tits.

All of the fantasy leagues, survivors pools, and pick em contests don't necessarily have to correlate with increase viewership. Many of those people playing don't care about watching the game as much as they care about the stats or results.

NFL is streaming 10 games on Twitter this year. Millions of viewers who watch on illegal streams are unaccounted for but will watch on Twitter cause it's free

I think Twitter will only stream Thursday night games that are all now broadcast on free network tv. Who steals a stream when they can get it free over the air anyway?

This is what happens when you turn smash mouth football into soccer flopping air raids.
