Since they aren't getting fired, shouldn't that tell you they aren't messing up?

MLB umps

By and large, MLB umps do a great job making the right calls. I’m frequently impressed by them. Most of them are very professional.

The problem with MLB umps is some of them have extremely thin skin and get all in their feels when a player or coach complains. Then they show their arse.

You guys expect these guys to be perfect when the players aren't perfect and make mistakes also.

Double standard, much?

I don't expect them to be perfect. I just hate it how they can royally screw up and then don't have to answer for it like everyone else does. The Grady Jarrett play against the Bucs earlier this season is the best example I can come up with. It was an awful call, everyone saw it was an awful call, and yet the league and refs did not say a word about it. IIRC, that crew was working games the next week, so they clearly weren't punished for it. The Falcons were dumbfounded and no explanation was provided.

No one else gets to run and hide when they frick up that egregiously. They shouldn't get to either.

Same here, but there is a reason the officials are shielded. I think that is more than obvious now. The advent of instant replay, while much needed, has also put a spotlight on everything else.

As for officiating, basketball, by far, is the hardest sport to officiate, especially with three guys. However, it isn't THAT hard to see, especially during a CBB game, which offical(s) aren't "good" at their job.

As for the NFL, you have 8 officials out there along with a dozen cameras, instant replay, and "someone" from "New York" assisting. In the majority of plays, you have two, sometimes three officials within ten yards of a play and yet they all conveniently miss things.

Now, they are "missing" calls on instant replay. I'm sorry, but that is BEYOND obvious.

They shouldn't be. Why do they get protected when they screw up at their jobs?

Like I stated above: Shouldn't that tell you that their employers don't feel as though they are messing up?

Hell, for over a decade, the SEC had a Bama alum in charge of officiating and another in charge of scheduling. Yet fans were dumbfounded when Bama went nearly three full SEC seasons without being called for holding, and the bridge scheduling fiasco ended up assisting them for nearly four seasons. The true believers will tell you that you are a pussy for pointing out the obvious, so things like this continue.

Look up the "Entertainment Clauses" that protect the sports leagues. It will likely flip the switch in your brain on why these things happen the way they do.

It’s not just the refs rigging the game, the players are in on it now, with widespread legal gambling, players are purposely dropping passes and staying under rushing yards during primetime games. Landry “dropped” that wide open touchdown right before half, you can’t tell me receiver of his caliber drops that pass unintentionally.

Someone mentioned to me something about that play, and another play later where one of the RBs for the Saints could have gotten a first down, for some reason didn't, then the Saints had to punt giving the Bucs the winning TD. Said that player even sent out an "apology". LOLOLOLOL

I would love to see this.

What’s worse is he used the same neck hook on Crosby the very next play.

The NFL is nothing more than WWF. It’s a joke. It’s scripted, planned, and executed with the understanding and approval of all participating parties. It’s a fricking satire. Refs, players , coaches, all involved…they’re all in on it. Quit thinking it’s a legitimate “sport” and it becomes easier not watch. Albeit less important.
