I realize it's only one game. I still agree that pro style and West Coast offenses are safer bets in the NFL but I like the fact that a spread offense is working SO FAR in the NFL and it will probably lead to more variety in NFL offenses.

Depending on how you define "spread offense" one could say teams like the Saints, Patriots, and Packers have been successful in A spread for a few years now

People who know the game say he got more done at the college level in his practices than Saban did. I've been at an LSU practice when Saban was there (obviously still early in his coaching development), and I've been to 2 in Oregon under Kelly. I've never seen anything like it, the man's a genius

NFL people have been drooling over him for years they just didn't have the balls to pull the trigger because of his offense.

So they were going to hire him because of his offense but didn't because of his offense?

Makes sense.

Now someone did and the personnel looks like a perfect fit.

For now.

We'll see how it holds up. He only had to deal with 2-3 teams a year that had equal or greater talent than him.

Looks like Chip Kelly is a detriment to his defense late in games...

Thinking the same thing. I just bookmarked, will repost when Philly ends the season 6-10 and/or when Vick gets a season ending injury.

53 MAN ROSTER....Kelly's style will not work full throttle all game.....

Having the ability to run uptempo is situational.

The physical punishment on the QBs will be too much. He's gonna need 5 QBs on his roster.

Vick is already limping off of the field. He will not make it to week six.

the man has only played one full season in his career.

he's bound to get hurt. Then it would Nick Foles getting the call I assume.

Bingo. Wes Welker was basically running the same 3-4 routes he excelled at at TTU for 90% of his snaps with the Patriots.

The Redskins and Niners each made the playoffs with the pistol being a healthy chunk of their offense. You need variety to win. Not just in formations, not just in routes/run designs, and not in tempo, but in all 3.

What he did at Oregon wasn't exactly rocket science bub. He only had to deal with one team that had the same level of talent as him and I'm a better coach than that fail-upper.

He ran a spread option in a no huddle fast tempo pace. It's not a coincidence that he any time he faced a team that had equal or better talent and an equal coach, he lost and usually lost pretty decisively.

How much you can accomplish in practice is about as good a way to measure a coach as there is. Kelly gets more done than anyone. He'll be successful.

No, would make sense if you could read. They've been drooling over his philosphy, the way he builds and structures a program.

The concern about the offense is what held him up so much. Seeing similar styles thrive in San Fransisco, Seattle, and Washington put those concerns to rest and thus he got his shot.

Eh, their skill talent was absolutely on par or better than 99% of the nation. Across the lines, however, they had no advantage and when they did play "even" teams they were wholistically outmanned. Almost every team they've lost to over the last couple of years dominated them at the point of attack. Those matchups weren't even.

Running that many plays against an NFL defense is eventually going to lead to QB & RB injuries. This isn't Wazzou and Fresno St.

Glad I wasn't the only one with that thought.

Based on the start of this thread I guess we can crown Mike McCoy coach of the year. It only took the Chargers 15 seconds to score.

I hope you're talking about Lane Kiffin not David Shaw.

Every team he lost to while at Oregon was more talented than him and decisively so along the LOS.

-2009 (first year as head coach) - Losses to a Boise State team with one of the better DLs in the nation, check the roster. Lost to Stanford under Harbaugh and Ohio State. Possibly should have beat Boise, but he was absolutely undermanned against Stanford and Boise.

-2010 - Lost to Auburn. Nick Fairley, Cam Newton, and Michael Dyer, enough said. That game was only close because of his brilliant gameplan tweaks. They beat 3 teams that season so pretty close to even talent I'd say.

-2011 - Lost to LSU (not even close in talent) and USC. Probably should have beat USC, but USC has never lacked for talent. Also beat 3 ranked teams including Stanford and Wisconsin.

-2012 - Lost to a Stanford team that will prove this season they have the best front 7 in CFB. They also beat 5 ranked teams.

So, yea I don't believe you. Nor do NFL execs who just handed over a multi-million dollar program to a guy who "hurries to the line and runs the option".
