This is really cool to see. Rickwood feels like a movie set so it will be a perfect setting. They already play a throwback game there every year anyway.

This will bring Bham 1000x more attention than that stupid World Games fraud.

There are a Church's fried chicken and a African hair braiding salon conveniently located within blocks of the stadium.

Thought you were trolling... nope, you're absolutely correct.

There are also the fine establishments of McD's and BK conveniently 2 blocks east.

Went there last year for a Savannah Bananas game.

Very rough area and the parking for this is going to be an absolute nightmare. I am talking dogs chained to trees all around level of rough.

All that aside, the field and facilities have held up really well for being the oldest park in America. You really feel like you took a time machine back to watch baseball. Just wish surroundings were better.

the Iowa site is going thru a large renovation, maybe why not there

Call me crazy, but maybe MLB should do something where they renovate a struggling ballpark and have a game, AND renovate an old Negro League spot

Paving over paradise and putting in a parking lot.

The whole appeal of the place was that it was as basic as it gets in the middle of nowhere. Turning it into the Wide World of Sports with a resort absolutely ruins the appeal.

It’s not just a Negro League spot. There’s a lot of baseball history in that old place.

Kinda thought it was lame that they werent playing on the actual field.

the actual field is too small. I don't think it's even 300' to the foul poles and only like 350 to straight away center.

Umm... well then it's not the "Field of Dreams" game. It's a "Willie Mays once played here when in the Negro Leagues" game. That's cool and all but they should name it something that signifies it's honoring the Negro Leagues in specific and not glom it onto a completely different thing.

field of dreams isn't a location, it's a mindset baw

Did anyone here go to the game last year or in 2021?

They haven’t played the Rickwood Classic since Covid. I used to go fairly regularly.

We also rented it once and played a few innings. Good stuff.

I meant if anyone here went to the the event in 2021 and last year. I was curious how much tickets were. And how accessible they were. I presume the only way to go is get lucky in a ticket lottery or pay out the nose on the secondary market. The stadium holds 10800, so it's slightly bigger than the Field Of Dreams stadium.

Ahh. I’d also be curious to know that. Gotta think tics will be pricey.

Agreed

Looks like they’re turning it into a travel ball Mecca

Probably gonna host 2-3 World Series a year there

Just a few more years before we get the Mets in Smith-Will’s in Jackson in honor of the 80’s Mets farm system.

I had a lot of good times as a kid in the early 80s watching the Jackson Mets. Remember seeing guys like Lenny Dykstra,
Greg Olson, Calvin Shiraldi, Billy Beane, Kevin Mitchell and others. The Texas League was pretty good back then. Saw an exhibition game and still have a baseball from the 84 Olympic team at Smith Wills too.

Need to find some of those old orange con “cowboy” Maloney cups.

Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Dizzy Dean, Joe Jackson all played there.
