New Orleans Media Power Rankings

1. Jim Henderson- The most recognizable voice in the New Orleans sports realm, Henderson has called Saints games for 3 decades now. His Sunday commentaries are poetic & prove that his opinion should be one of the most respected in the city of New Orleans.
2. Sean Fazende- The Fox 8 pretty boy from Gretna has really grown as a sports journalist. After some early growing pains, he has really turned into a well rounded reporter. He's good looking, well spoken, & takes careful note of what the fans want to hear when dishing inside scoops. He truly understands the game of football when reporting on the Saints, specifically. Wouldnt be shocked if he moves on to bigger & better things soon. Ideally he'd be the Saints sideline reporter tomorrow.
3. Jennifer Hale- From her humble beginnings as an anchor on Fox 8, she is now the most recognizable face of New Orleans sports media, as she can be seen roaming the sideline for Fox NFL games, NBA on TNT, as well as Pelican games. Hale is well respected nationally, and should only expect to get more offers for her services.
4. Nick Underhill- Nick's Saints coverage for the Advocate is second to none, and his best work can be found on twitter (@nick_underhill). Nick's love & understanding of analytics really separates him from any Saints reporter before him. With use of his credentials, Underhill is able to gain info and stats that readers are not privy to & convey them to fans through his articles.
5. Ken Trahan- Ken Trahan has been a fixture in NOLA media for nearly 4 decades. His impact is broad, from being an excellent emcee, to prep football, to directing WGSO 990, to his involvement in the Sugar Bowl. Ken has called games for the Zephyrs, Saints, UNO, Delgado sports, & New Orleans Voodoo. If you've heard him call a game, he is truly a pro. Surprised this powerhouse has remained in this market for so long.
6. Mike Detellier- Detellier is a staple when it comes to Saints football, and most notably, the NFL draft. Detellier outshines all members of the media here when it comes to knowing players. If there is a media member that is more knowledgeable about a certain subject than Mike is with the draft, I'd like to read their work.
7. Michael McNamara- You can read McNamara's work covering the Pelicans over at Bourbon Street shots. McNamara is knowledgeable, albeit polarizing, but fills a much needed void for NBA basketball info that has lacked since moving the Hornets to New Orleans. McNamara is self appointed of the 2 most knowledgeable salary cap gurus covering the NBA today.
8. Kaare Johnson- while choosing to mix politics and sports down the dial at 1280, Kaare really excels when talking sports. His steel trap memory is able to recite things that happened in the local landscape dating back to the 70's. Ideally Kaare should be on the big 870, covering sports and ticking off callers with his shock jock style.
9. Eric Asher- Eric's fast talking, used car salesman approach can be found in the mornings 11am-1pm on 990AM, as well as his award winning TV once a week on WLAE. The big man masters no specific genre, but is very knowledgeable from the Pels to Saints to local college. He clearly does his homework and is in touch with his teams, which as a fan, i can appreciate when i tune in.
10. Jimmy D Smith- Jimmy Smith aka Jimmy Details is Nola.com's high school recruiting expert. Jimmy is well known within the recruiting community, not just in NOLA but nationally. With NOLA relying on Baton Rouge-based recruiting services for years, he has recently brought inside recruiting news to New Orleans, for free. Jimmy knows all the coaches & players not just for that current recruiting class, but 2-3 years down the line. He will be a mover and shaker on this list in years to come.

No Fletcher Mackel? That's a shitty list IMO.
Posted on 6/2/17 at 2:15 pm to lsusportsman2
Fletcher Mackel and the word power should never be used in the same sentence other than this current sentence to explain that they should never be used together.

Larry holder is like the 5th best newspaper guy covering the Saints

After opening the thread and not seeing the Cajun Cannon at #1, there was no way I could take this list seriously.

Where is Joel Meyers? The Pelicans play by play announcer is a mainstay host on NBA radio and one of the best PBP in the entire league.

Which one is zimma?
this isn't the popeye's gofer list, otherwise he'd be #1 obviously.

I find Joel Meyers to be boring, to be honest. And it's not Pelicans hate.. I thought the same when he did Texans games back in like 2012.
What makes him one of the best PBP guys?

Myers is a good pbp guy. He doesn't try to add too much flare and isn't super cheesy like a lot of those guys. Myers and Wesley are a good team for the Pels.

How do you feel about Gus Kattengell?

Which is why he's good

He's on the bottom 5 list with Kristian "did you hear me say I was a marine" Garic.
