It is an entirely separate entity than the LL org. It's also why I don't understand why this team is under the JPRD name.

Unofficial answer. This NOLA-JPRD concept was done after a back-room deal ran by JPRD Eastbank folks that were tired of the JPRD Westbank teams winning and advancing all the time. There were a ton of Westbank parents pissed off when this first occurred because of how it went down. GNO and other surrounding areas are now combined. But it does look like the result is what was intended... more kids having opportunities and an overall better team.

Yes. According to some on this board, this team is mostly made up of west bank kids. I'm still confused as to why they play under the "Jefferson Parish Recreation Department" name when their entire border is in Orleans Parish.

I think I saw St Bernard was in that border too

What they do to keep their rec leagues so good over there?

pretty sure they pull from the largest area

Lot of kids from the kenner side of Power blvd used to be able to get waivers too

A few years back I worked at Traction and had a Lake Charles dad tell me they played the absolute minimum amount of required LL games because they hated it so much. They just wanted to go to Williamsport. It was just their travel team that they played with year round in USSSA that would be selected for the LL all star team.

Super duper lame

It’s not enough that they abandon and effectively ruin rec baseball in general, they also have to come back to further corrupt what is left of the leagues with their one year of glory-chasing in a rec uniform.

Close but I think it’s the other way around. Believe It was a deal b/w GNO and JPRD Westbank b/c they were getting waxed in All-Stars against the Eastbank teams. Parks on the WB are too small. Top 10-12 kids on the WB can be really good but not on a park by park basis. This way, JPRD can compete in both the Dixie Youth program through the EB and LL on the WB.

They play under GNO-JPRD. It’s Orleans, Westbank of JP, parts of St. Bernard and part of Plaquemines. GNO had the charter to begin with. Some people saying the WB is supposed to get their own charter next year b/c there has been lots of rift b/w JPRD folks and LL folks.

South Lake Charles is trying to implement travel kids back into rec. They have a decent plan in place that will start this coming season.

no they dont. the best kids are not going back. i know because my kid is in that age group and plays on the best team in the area by far. almost all are not going back unless something major changes. the league is terrible, i coached in it for years.

i mean if going to play in tournaments against better competition with much better rules is ruining the league...well then i guess they are guilty.

rec killed itself with its politics

first off the rules in little league are terrible. sorry but the field dimensions are the same most 8 year olds in travel play from. the field is way too small. no stealing at 12 is dumb

2nd the competition is horrible. sorry the kids that are going to play in HS dont want to play in a league with kids that literally have never played before. it doesnt help them get better

3rd playing 12-15 games or even if you make world series 35 games and then putting the bat down for 8 months is not a recipe for development. you dont have to play all year but you need more than what rec plays for sure.

4th the politics for the all star teams with dads coaching is dumb AF

so kids left for a better model, atleast he good players did. and they arent going back for the most part except a very small few who still want to chase the LLWS dream

most 12 years olds now a days would just assume go to cooperstown and one of the big PG world series

Nah, JPRD east wanted to change things up and have the top 2 WB teams play against the top 2 EB teams with the 2 winners representing JPRD at the state tournaments. It had always been the top WB and the top EB teams. Then the EB wanted to create the Elite travel team, and it all snowballed from there. In either case, I’m pulling for the GNO-JPRD team to win today.

Sorry Louisiana lost, but those are some great kids from Boerne. I may be a bit biased as I have taught them as 6th graders and coached them in pe. Bad thing is our football season will start bad as 5 of the kids will be 7th grade a team players with 1 our qb. So may be a rough start to the year if they make a run.

I just dont get how JPRD has enough kids to win in multiple REC leagues. LL, DYB, etc. all in the same year with the same age kids. Girard's 12U coaches will tell you the best team they played so far was Lakeshore in District.
Growing up, we certainly had the talent for this. my age group, age group above me, and the age group above that all had park all star teams go to the DYWS. There was a ton of talent in the area 15-20 years ago.

LL all you need is one travel team to make a "rec" league look good and go to Williamsport. There were definitely years where say Harahan or Little Farms or Pontiff or Girard or Miley just had their best 10 or so kids not play DY and play LL instead, they'd have the talent to go to Williamsport.

LL is just not a very competitive league in general. If you have a group of 13 twelve year olds, 7 of which end up playing catholic league ball, that team will do well enough in the regional rounds of LL to make it to Williamsport. My travel team had 6 kids play in the catholic league, 2 play lower level hs baseball, and the rest quit baseball after 8th grade. We lost to the eventual US runner up by 2 runs that year in a USSSA tournament. The team with the Jordan twins, Trey Quinn, Kennon Fontenot, etc. They absolutely should have won that game too if not for an error by Gunner Leger (ULL ace and draft guy pre injury) late in the game. Hawaii, the team that beat them, smoked Japan or whoever they played in the finals.
