Did you notice a difference in the distance you hit your irons when you got these? I don't play much at the moment but I grew up playing junior golf and was a decent to good player at my peak (high school) as I got down to about a 4 handicap. My problem is that I'm using horribly outdated technology especially with my irons. I have the same Ping Eye irons from the late 80s/early 90s.

I hit my new driver about 280 on average but can't hit my irons consistently at all as I don't think they're properly weighted or fitted for me. Do they do any club fitting at any of the big retailers like Dicks or Academy Sports?

I have tm r9's they tested very well for me, but I dont like taylormades faces, distance control is an issue. The faces are too hot IMO. I have tried the mb's and found the same thing. Litterly I have found that I have more distance control with my driver 3 wood, and hybrid than with the R9's.
The real choices are Adams, mizunio, ping and titleist.

Edwin watts all the prices are the same.
Don't ever buy an iron for distance. Also don't get caught up is 8 iron vs. 7 iron. Check the lofts. That is important. When testing try to hit a short iron PW a mid iron 6-7 and a long iron. Buying an iron set by comparing 6 irons is stupid.

Unfortunately the 6 irons are the only ones with serial #s, so they're the ones that are demo'd. How did you get a retailer to give you multiple irons out of different sets to demo?

To the OP, I was in the same predicament myself last summer. I demo'd the MCs, AP2s, and Mizunos, and I liked the AP2s the best. The MCs were a little less consistent for me. But the real answer is to try them yourself.

thanks for the info

i plan to go to uclub where they have a TM and titleist fitting cart bc i've never had a true fitting

i know the ap2's they have will be the 712 and not 710, which is what i can afford, but i'd think they will be pretty similar

MC's are a "joke" of a forged iron, buy the AP2 or some Mizuno's

In store hitting, the simple fact is because of this companies build their sets around 6 irons. Neglecting others.

I don't see how you can take anything away from hitting irons off a mat on simulator. I need to see how my ball flies to determine whether or not I like a club.

Are you saying that 6 irons are built differently? I don't know what you mean by "neglecting others."

No, buy the set is built around them. Think about it like this they optimize the 6 iron, because that is what 9-10 people compare the other clubs too. So the sweet spot will be enlarged to the misses from a 6 iron. Usually on the inside as opposed to longer irons on the outside, the lofts will be arranged around the 6 iron. Probably a big gap between the 7 and almost no gap between the 5. How many people do you know that can hit their six iron farther than their 5 iron. In fact there was a study that showed this a couple of years ago.

I picked up 18-20 yards per club when I switched to Ping s59 Tours from Adams A4s. Not sure if the fitting process helped the most or the actual clubs. I thought it was too much club at first, but after a few months they're really starting to come around.
