IMO, that rationale has run its course. Exactly zero of the players currently on Duke were there when the scandal occurred (most of them weren't even in high school yet, only the seniors were freshmen in HS at the time) and they've won the national championship since that time. I was pulling for them in the years immediately following the scandal (and probably would have in the NCG they won if it wasn't against Notre Dame) but that's over and done with. Duke's a "villain" now in college lacrosse. They've made it the past seven straight years to the Final Four. Exact opposite of the underdog.
I'm pulling for Denver. I think it's cool its roster consists of players from all over the map.

I agree with everything you said. the scandal is over, no one talks about it, and duke is not affected by it anymore.
in the past 6 or so years, Denver has gotten better and better each year, and I want them to win it all this year. they are legit.

I read "Until Proven Innocent" in January, so it's been more on my recently.
And while that scandal has passed, the bias and hate against "white privelege" continues. Duke embodies fighting that ridiculous discrimination. (Think "pay your fair share" and that crowd).
