Notable selections:

JHU is out for the first time in like 40 years.
UNC given 5 seed after going into selection ranked #1 in two polls.
Top SOS schools like Villanova and UVA not selected due to being below .500. Two AQs in Detroit and Bryant are below .500 however.

Terps got bent over. #2 in the computer polls, and they get to play the #1 team (Cornell) in the computer poll. And the winner goes to play Ohio St on the road?

Yeah that Maryland Cornell game is crazy. That's meant for the semis or something. Not first round.

The committee basically pushed for parity and said "we think Midwest and big east Lax is better than the ACC."

Wouldn't they play Ohio State at one of the regionals?

But I thought the Terps got a raw deal. Shocked that Cuse was the top seed as well.

This season has so much parity though that really none of the teams deserved a top seed. Cornell had a good record but they lost early in the Ivy tournament.

Very tough tournament to predict. And I have no idea how Duke will do. They have a reasonable seeding, but I could ND or Loyola knocking us off before the Final 4.

Which is absurd. Cornell not getting a seed is insane.

Here it is

quote:

The winners of the Syracuse-Bryant and Penn State-Yale games will meet in the May 18 Byrd Stadium Quarterfinal, along with the winners of the Ohio State-Towson and Cornell-Maryland games. The winners of North Carolina-Lehigh and Denver-Albany, and Notre Dame-Detroit and Duke-Loyola will head to Lucas Oil Stadium on May 19.

So actually OSU gets to play a road game against MD in the quarterfinals? Huh?

I think the UVA and Hopkins snubs make perfect sense. Kind of sucks for St. John's, Princeton, and Penn though.

They got the easier side of the bracket.

The bottom half is brutal. Maryland, Cornell, Duke, ND, and Loyola. And they don't have to face the big sleeper, Albany.

Definitely. They have the best coach in the country, in my opinion, while UNC's coach does less with more than just about anyone else.

But Albany, on the right day, can beat anyone. They're basically starting the Iroquois national team's frontline and have the best player in the country.

If I could pick any seeded team's draw, I would go with UNC's.

Please say you're not including the draw for top-seeded Syracuse. Play team with losing record. Win. Then play winner of Yale/Penn St. Win. Go to Final Four, where the best team you can play is Denver or UNC. Win again.

Cuse has a cakewalk to the finals.

Yeah, I meant from a seeding perspective. As in the first should have the easiest road, second should have second clearest path, etc. But to me UNC has the second best path to the Final 4.

But I agree with you that Cuse has a cakewalk, especially since they are a shaky 1 seed and this is a year with lots of good teams (that all seem to be seeded 2,3,6,or 7).

I just have to hope that the Penn State goalie plays out of his mind in the quarterfinals.

I think I'm going to go with ND over Denver in the finals
