re: NBA ratings continue to struggle. How can the league fix this?

I usually have a couple player prop bets on the NBA every night, and still don’t watch the games. I’ll check box scores on my phone while I’m watching a hockey game or NFL when it’s on.

if you did a trial (like in the in season tournament) where you just got rid of the 3 point line. I honestly have no idea what it would look like (might completely suck) but I’d love to find out.
My retarded idea is to let teams draw their own courts like MLB does

Shorten the season and lower the contracts

The contracts are way out of control. The 12th guy on the bench gets like $10 million if not more.

This. Not only will you have fewer injured players but players will put forth more effort in each game.
I don't blame guys for sitting out, they're maximizing their earnings while preventing as much wear and tear as possible. That doesn't mean it's good for the game.

The league is broken on many ways.
For example, when players drive the ball its common they will get more foul calls due to the extra contact. But here’s an example of league refs:
Memphis Grizzlies: 2nd in drives per game, 2nd in FTA per game
Oklahoma City Thunder: 1st in drives per game, 29th in FTA per game
How can any team have the most drives and be almost last in foul shots? Not saying it should be exactly equal, but if first in drives you should be in at least top 5 for FTA’s.
Just one of many problems. Last 2 minutes taking 22 minutes of actual time?

The thunder do drive and kick a lot. Memphis averages about 6 more field goal attempts per game within 8 feet of the rim and a higher fg %.
Not saying that ok doesn't get shafted on free throw calls but they drop to #11 when looking at field goal attempts per game within 8 feet.
Would like to see what these numbers looked like for teams if u added foul calls to their field goal attempts

Agree, but even at 11 (1 in drives and 11 in tries within 8 feet) they should not be 29th. The difference is almost impossible statistically unless NBA has an agenda

As a hardcore Mavs fan, I pulled for the Western teams every year.I still pull for teams from the West, and generally pull for West teams, but the best series to watch in 2021-2022 was Bucks Celtics. Those were some competitive games.
I miss MJ who expected great team play and welcomed anyone who would participate in it.

NBA has a lot of problems, it happens to every league at some point though. The game is currently disjointed and imbalanced that overly favors offense, which can make it drudgery to watch. Few ideas that I've kicked around with other folks at times.
• Loosen defensive rules. Enough with a foul with every single defensive challenge, especially with blocking
• Extend the clock after offensive rebounds. Maybe not all the way back to 24 seconds, but maybe something like 18. It's easier to swing it out for a 3 than set up a play when you have less time
• Only 2 timeouts allowed in the last two minutes of a game and only 5 timeouts instead of 7. More strategy and it means the last minute of a game doesn't last a half hour.
• Allow hand-checking again. Tighter defense against all the 3 pointers
• Eliminate the "gather-step"
• Stricter flopping rules
• Move the 3 point line back
• Minimum minutes for all active players per game. (this one's tough, but a way to get some of the star power off the bench)
Non-rules stuff
• Less games, move to 60 games or so
• Change the schedule to standardize nights; Tues, Wed, Saturday to give an example. You can accommodate that with less games and make it appointment watching like the NFL on Sunday. And then put feature games on outside of the regular schedule, like the NFL does.
There are more, but end of the day, the NBA game currently lacks structure for viewers. It's a loose game with "seemingly" little strategy and barely any defense and that makes it look like guys aren't really working out there. Do we need to go back to the 80's and 90's where it was football on a court, probably not, but there has to be some balance brought back.

I'm not convinced that it's an NBA issue as much as a professional sports issue. If you removed Fantasy Football, the NFL would be in trouble also.

I, The NBA Viewer, am not boycotting, nor merely waiting for Football season to end, it's just that my NBA Viewership much like so many of it's players, is under "Load Management", I should be fully ready to view when the Playoffs arrive.
Give me six months, I'll be ready.

I will say that I've watched way less NFL this year than years past. My team is horrible but has been for years so it's hard to blame it on that.

I’ll keep saying it until it happens. Make 3 pointers worth 4 and 2 pointers worth 3. The math was wrong and people learned how to expose it.

I tend to agree. Professional sports seems to just matter a lot less in this day and age. It just doesn't feel as important culturally like it used to.
Just anecdotally as a kid I saw tons of people, kids and adults, casually wearing pro sports swag (hats, jerseys, etc). I simply don't see that anymore. Outside of fans at actual games I just don't see people wearing their swag.
