He shouldn't be talking about me either. I like Simmons for the most part, but I've actually been attacked on the movie board recently for criticizing him.

Was that the year John Wooden and Randy Livingston spoke to the campers?

If so, I was there that year. I think it may have been 1993 though.
I'm pretty sure that Coach Wooden spoke to us in 1996, the last year of Brown's camp. I say that because we had to sit on the floor for all the lectures because the PMAC seats had become unusable; every other year they pulled the seats out for us to use.

Randy spoke to us in multiple years.

Are you and I the same age? (Me = 30)

shite. We definitely sat on the floor for Wooden. At least i think we definitely did lol. Maybe he spoke in multiple years?

Because '96, I woulda been 17. I definitely wasn't in camp that year as I spent the summer in Orlando.

I think it was the summer before 10th grade, which was 1994, so I woulda been 15.

It was definitely 1994, because UCLA won the title the next year. I remember now. They had renovated the seats for my final two years at the camp (95/96).

It was the only year Wooden came. Wimp Sanderson also spoke to us that year; he was HILARIOUS.

And I'm pretty sure we still at Mr. Gatti's at night and hadn't yet switched to Papa John's.

I think it is funny that a certain group of posters here love Simmons yet conveniently don't want to talk about how he believes Rose is the MVP.

Anyone who doesn't think Rose is the MVP should never be allowed to post anymore and should have their heads examined. It should be close to unanimous IMO.

It was Wilt. Boston fans and contrarians said Russell, but they are wrong. It requires you to give all of the credit for the Celtics' titles to Russell and not the fact they had four Hall of Famers in the starting lineup.

Jordan is essentially a Wilt who won titles.

You live in Chicago, don't you?

Rose is going to be the weakest MVP in a long time. He's 7th in points, 10th in assists, and 9th in PER. He also has a mediocre +/- IIRC. His entire MVP campaign is based on team improvement, but the Bulls happened to get the best defensive coach in the NBA this season. Their defense went from 22nd to 1st. I don't have any problem with him winning it, but it's not insane to argue for someone else. Simmons even prefaced his pick of Rose as MVP by saying that it was almost by default because there were no other good candidates this season.

and even this is a biased statement b/c (1) he just dismisses lebron and (2) he criticizes howards for not giving 100% every night, as if he can calculate this

MVP voters consistently overrate guards. IT's how Shaq only won one MVP.

Actually, Simmons' last arguent for Rose completely convinced me that Howard is the MVP. His logic exclusing Howard was so tortured, and reminded me of the logic which consistenty robbed Shaq.

we're on the same page here

it's like b/c a guy is big, he's expected to dominate and he has to be hercules to be the MVP. it's bullshite

the same shite is happening to lebron

I was really disappointed in that part of his column. Rose was his MVP because "Rose plays hard" and Howard doesn't.

Either Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain, I would guess.

Some of the younger people would probably have said Magic or Bird.

This is just laughable. Shaq was the most dominant force for several years. Same with MJ who should have won the MVP every year he played in the 90's

Oh yeah. This, too. Can't forget Dr. J. He did stuff nobody's seen before. Also Kareem is a good name to throw in the discussion.

simmons usually does that in his 3rd era

he can write an article that is 98% coherent, and do it in a way that is entertaining and a good way to look at things, then he destroys it with 2% of insanity

still better than half of his articles being about he and his boys dominating vegas, and better than most stale writing...but yeah

The fact Nash has two MVP's and Shaq only one makes me think less of the NBA MVP award. It's like a center or power forward has to raise someone from the dead to be named MVP.
