Houston owners aren't cheap and didn't mind paying him more money this year because they would be allowed to match any offer despite their salary cap situation. So they were betting on signing a max player this offseason to fill the 4 spot and then signing parsons. This would have kept their 4 best players on the team for multiple years. If they would have optioned parsons they would be screwed next year. They wouldn't be able to sign parsons and wouldn't have had any money left to pick up a decent FA. Other than being out some money this year, they're in the same spot either way.

Well I guess i'm not surprised teams want him. I read the tweet as if birdman is about to get paid a good bit

Houston did him a solid by getting him his money early, then Cuban fricked them by offering him more than Houston was expecting to pay. (To be fair it was fair market value but I doubt Houstom expected the market to be so high)
