Had the league and players’ union followed the normal formula to determine this season’s salary cap — linking it to overall league revenue — sources told ESPN that it would have fallen to around $90 million

Instead of an expected increase it would be a $19 million drop per team, which won't happen.

Its people like you who predicted fans, who said they were no longer watching, were lying.
Professional sports viewership was declining, regardless. It was stupid to ridicule patriotic fans and speed up the decline.
I've watched sports all my life. I asked my four grandchildren, age 12-17 this morning, "What is a first down".
Not one could tell me. They know about as much about sports as I know about smartphones.
When I was their age, I could name the starting lineup of all major league baseball teams.
There were fewer teams in those days.
I'd bet those kids could not name one base ballplayer.
Times are changing. The CCP will have to pay a bigger percentage of Lebron's salary, since fewer fans are watching advertising.

Your only resort is to seek out posters to mock on a message board.

You're winning big!

this doesnt make sense unless you liked games just every two days and not the bloated first round series of years past

This really is curious. I'm not really sure how that is possible with so many people sitting at home this year.

Same here. I remember everyone assuming sports would get great ratings due to people being home.

I hate the format of the NBA playoffs. It has too many teams playing one-another too many times.

The round robin style of the bubble tournament before the playoffs this year was fun because you got the constant basketball, you got constant games, but it wasn’t seven straight games between the same 2 teams night after night. Instead, it was a round-robin winnowing down the field, which helped create some variety in the games that could be watched. I watched more bubble tournament games than I typically watch regular season games during a normal season. I also watched a lot more bubble games than playoff games.

If there had been crowds, that round-robin style tournament would have been downright compelling as more than just (eh, there’s nothing else on and I miss sports so I guess I’ll watch it).

that was the regular season. The playoffs were exactly like they’ve been for a while

I haven’t watched. Not actively boycotting... just have had very little interest in sports this year.

I’m sure in my subconscious it’s because of Covid and blm and all the other dumb stuff happening but at any rate, screw them all...

All you need to know how badly the Association is hemorrhaging viewers and revenue is that they are floating the idea of expansion. That is nothing more than a cheap revenue grab for the expansion fees because the see that times ahead are going to be rough. But, that just kicks the can down the road and doesn't address their core problems - their regular season has all the excitement of an accountant's convention, they have sold their souls to a repressive totalitarian regime that is an enemy of our country, their superstars who are the faces of the league are largely a collection of extremely unlikable simpletons and, most of all, they have gone out of their way to insult and alienate their core audience - middle and upper middle-class white males.

Has to be poverty and ignorance. I actually feel bad for them because it must be a miserable life.

You nailed it. Expansion is a last ditch effort.

I used to love the NBA. My interest has sharply declined in the last five years. I was the guy who would attend an NBA game on Christmas Day. Here is why my interest has faded:

1. Superteams make the regular season irrelevant.

2. My team is small market. As Timmy, Tony, and Manu aged out, so did the Spurs title chances (coupled with Kawhi being a dick).

3. It’s tiring seeing millionaires whine about having to play in New Orleans, Cleveland, Sacramento, OKC, etc. Allowing them to dictate destination is a terrible business model.

4. Silver exposed himself as a major hypocrite in China dealings. He thinks his fanbase is too stupid to realize it.

5. The faces of the league have criticized a significant portion of their fans. I’m tired of having millionaires (I.e. people who don’t live like normal folks) tell me how I need to feel and act. I’m supposed to tune in and/or pay money for a ticket, concessions, etc to watch athletes that tell me to feel guilty because of my skin color? No thanks.
