Which is something that can be said about most civilizations prior to Western societies circa early 19th century.

Was there nothing noble about Ancient Greece or Rome because they had slavery?

Evidently the American flag is not about unity.

I'm pretty comfortable saying any group of people that enslaved another group of people were fricked up and wrong to do so, yeah.

Weird. It's amazing that with as much knowledge as we have at our fingertips these days, opinions like yours can be held. Swimming in a sea of knowledge, but dying of thirst.

I teach ancient history. There are a lot of words to describe the Greeks and Romans, but ‘noble’ isn’t one of them.

Of course there are, you are talking about civilizations/states that lasted centuries and contributed much culturally to the world.

Can the same be said for a failed state that lasted for 4 years, whose express purpose for existing was the continuation of a society and economy built on African chattel slavery? There’s not a lot to be redeemed with the CSA. They are an ugly, bloody appendage to the American story.

Widespread murder of political opponents, genocide, child prostitution, temple prostitution, legal rape, and I could go on...

We’re there noble people among the Greeks and Romans? Yes. Were their civilizations noble? Absolutely not.

Conservatives are not good at this.

I think this day and age people know enough about the rebel flag to know that it's dumb to fly it, but leaving doesn't hurt NASCAR at all unless fans are going to miss him.

what you are supposed to do is just show up to the next race with whatever is banned and martyr yourself.

Everyone says NASCAR can ban the Confederate Flags from their races, but can they? Sure NASCAR can ban it on tracks they own, but what about non-NASCAR tracks? Tracks like Indy, Pocono, Kentucky, Charlotte, Dover, Atlanta, Bristol, Vegas, Texas and Sonoma. That's 16 out of the 36 races on the NASCAR schedule.

I think I could be wrong.... but I believe SMI and ISC merged. Indy, Pocono, and Dover (who owns Nashville) are independently owned.

As for this Bubba pretty much nailed it.

So I don't follow NASCAR and have no idea who this guy is. Reading about him, it's kind of funny that the only thing of any importance he's done in his career is quitting over the Confederate flag.

I’m no expert in how racing works but Pretty sure those tracks are well incentivized to do whatever nascar wants more so than vice versa

Outside of Indianapolis, the non NASCAR owned tracks don’t have a lot of leverage (beyond their enforcing their current contract).

Like what would Dover be if it lost its Cup Series date?
