Agree. At some point these NIL collectives will want an actual return on investment and money will drop
I doubt it. The goal isn't economic return for most of these people. You think Phil Knight cares at all about return? They have social and personal goals. It's like the Saudi's and LIV. Their ROI is political and social, not financial return so you can't even consider normal economic considerations.

Yeah, I initially thought the market would re-set in a few years. But, I think you're right. Rich people who might not quite have the money or access to afford a pro team may have the resources to contribute to their favorite college toy. And that's not even getting into the Phil Knight, Stephen Ross, Mat Ishbia, Joe Jamail, T Boone Pickens types (I know the last two are dead) who could start bidding wars for players.
College sports have been sleazy for a while, but it's especially disgusting now.

I would be more sympathetic to your rant if coaches and now even assistant coaches were not making millions a year. (Highest paid person public employee in the state in most cases)
You do realize the top recruited players are actively choosing the 10 million dollar coaches and assistants? Recruits choose Saban, LSU, Ohio State because they get a shot at the NFL.

I like it. College football is all about money so let the money flow.
Why would you want this? Unless you are one of the ones getting paid, you as a fan should want exactly the opposite. You are essentially saying you want to take what is supposed to be a sports competition and turn it into an economic one. In sports, wins and losses reset at the end of each season. In economics wins and losses are permanent. We should not be looking to drive smaller schools out of the football business. What we as fans should want is a system that:
-Gives programs equal access to talent
-Allows smaller schools to compete on an even playing field with larger ones
-Keeps the sport tied to the things that have traditionally driven fan interest (i.e., schools and states/regions)
-Promotes the game nationally while still allowing for it to exist and be played regionally
For all its faults, the NCAA attempted to achieve these goals. How much it succeeded is a matter of debate but the sport is evolving into something that definitely doesn't care about the first two items on the list, doesn't appear to care much about the "regional" part of the fourth, and may or may not care about the third. College football cannot exist with schools competing against each other for talent in an unregulated capitalistic environment. Look at the NFL as an example - the central office regulates competition so that all teams have a theoretically equal shot to win, no matter how much revenue they bring in. The NCAA is supposed to be this body for college football but Congress has more or less told them that they can't do it. The schools need each other to participate in college football in order for the sport to work, but we are moving towards a system where they are forced to try to put each other out of business in order to win. That clearly won't work long-term.

Remember just 3-5 years ago how the majority of posters were circle jerking on how college football players were so oppressed and needed to get paid big time money.
bullshite. It was never the majority.
You might be thinking of thread topics without remembering the upvote/downvote ratio. The majority of MSB and Rant always properly valued the free education, free personal tutors, free housing, free meals, free personal trainers, free nutritionists, and free exposure to potential employers.
It was always a vocal minority of social justice warriors that likened them to slaves who wanted to see bidding…like slave trade.

Scholarships for football need to go, basketball as well, and Zero. Tax dollars to any universities

I’m not sure that’s a fair characterization of fan support. We pay to see something we assume all parties entered into willingly.
College sports fans are the one party operating in good faith before and after NIL. The product has changed, and fans can decide how much that product is now worth.

Capitalism does work for an economy. We're not talking about that dummy. We're talking about a sports competition where teams need to play on an equal playing field or its stupid to even play the game.
Not sure why this is hard to understand.
This is supposed to be a controlled environment. You the play the game with boundaries and referees.

If you are one of these people who somehow couldn’t see a few years ago what was going to come out of that Pandora’s box once the Rubicon was crossed, are you happy with where it has gone? Any regrets or second thoughts?
Most of the ones in favor of this either didn't really care about college football or outright despised it and wanted to ruin it altogether. Let's be honest, most of the drumbeat for paying players was just thinly veiled race-baiting. How many times did we read posts along the lines of, "It's unconscionable that these white head coaches make millions of the backs of largely black players who don't get paid"? I want to see the looks on their faces in 15-20 years when the system has forced dozens of schools to drop football; this eliminating opportunities for thousands of black kids a year at a college education.
Of course, in true do-gooder fashion, they'll have moved on to their next destructive crusade without a second thought. At least they stuck it to the white patriarchy.

I'm going to need you to explain yourself as to why you think a completely free market for football talent is good for the sport of college football overall.

Yes, but I don't see how that is relevant in a discussion on who and to what extent that person should be compensated.

We are decades behind the whole "chickens have come home to roost" as you lay your whining on the athletes getting paid upsetting your views on CFB. As soon as everyone agreed that charging an arm and a leg for tickets, and advertisers created the market where schools were getting paid tens of millions, it was always going to lead right here. Because if government is going to make a bunch of money, frick it, the people making it for them should have the chance too. Welcome to capitalism.
