(this is no joke, btw)

The event is to honor high school athletes. My bro lives in a metropolitan area with an approximate 1.5 million population. His organization has approved the fees and narrowed down the speakers to:

1) Ronda Rousey
2) Charles Barkley
3) Larry Bird

I listed each speaker in order by their speaking fees with Ronda Rousey having the highest fee.

Which speaker would you hire?

I told my brother that I'd go with Charles Barkley simply because he's humorous and entertaining on top of being famous. Larry Bird seems like a boring choice. Ronda is an interesting candidate who is dominating the headlines at the moment, but I have no clue how strong her public speaking skills are. It would be cool to meet her, but Charles Barkley would be a homerun entertainer in my opinion.

I'm going with Charles Barkley.

High school athletes in a metropolitan area of approximately 1.5 million in the deep south.

Really? To be fair, I've never listened to a Bird speech so I don't know. However, Barkley certainly has the personality to create an interesting evening...

Is there a reason you can't say which city in particular? I was about to run to a census site to see what city has 1.5 million people. Decided to spend the time asking you why instead.

Because it doesn't matter. The speakers matter.

Who would you choose to speak at your charity event?

Bird, without question. Especially if he's the cheapest.

The fees for all three have been approved. At this point it's just a choice.

If you want a successful event, you need to think about things beyond who is the cheapest candidate.

Dallas is well north of 6 million in its metro, and I wouldn't classify San Antonio as "deep south." Only cities I could think of that qualify with approximate populations around that are New Orleans, Birmingham, and Tampa. Maybe Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte and Richmond depending on your definition of deep south.

I'd go with Charles Barkley because of his southern ties and demeanor.

Easily Bird on my opinion. Then barkley. And I'd keep looking before settling in rousey.

Bird is the best candidate.

He's a fascinating speaker with great stories. He's also the least accessible of the three, so it would be someone special that the kids wouldn't get to hear very often otherwise.

ETA: Bird also relates very well to African American kids and will be able to speak to their dreams and such, if that's going to be an issue.

Charles: best entertainer and is more in the public presence where old and young know his name and his sense of humor.

Larry: good for old timers who got to watch him play also I assume he has a good story to tell. Most younger kids probably don't have much connection with him.

Ronda: Wildcard. We know she can fight, but giving a good speach at a charity event isnt something she is known for at this point. Would be a draw for the fact that she is currently an athlete at the top of her sport.

Follow the money. is the main target getting older generation to spend money? Is it to draw in the young crowd? Does this event make money from the ticket sales or asking for donations or auction etc? There are a lot of questions.
