Over say Joe Louis or Joe Frazier, or anyone else?
Is it the fact he defeated every great heavyweight of his generation?

Muhammad Ali is probably the greatest heavyweight ever, only Joe Louis can make a case for being greater. However, he's not the greatest boxer ever. That would be Sugar Ray Robinson.

I would say Ali was the biggest personality in the history of boxing. I truly believe guys like Lennox Lewis, EH, and even the Klitchco bros would have given him a lot of trouble in the ring though.

Don't see Evander Holyfield giving Ali too much trouble. Riddick Bowe beat him two out three times. However, Lennox Lewis would give any heavyweight in history a ton of problems. With his unbelievably long reach combined with impeccable boxing skills, it was virtually impossible to beat him via decision in his prime. Only way to beat him was to knock him out.

This is what have always thought about Lennox as well. And the Klitchco bros are about the same way. I don't know if Ali could have gotten to any of the 3 of them, with all that size they had. I definitely think they all would have given him a lot of trouble. You could throw Larry Holmes in there too, as he did actually beat Ali badly, though late in his prime.

Only thing in Tyson's favor is that pressure fighters usually gave Ali the most trouble. However, I just don't believe Tyson has the necessary boxing skills to beat Ali and it was almost impossible to knock him out. George Foreman was bigger, stronger and more powerful and Ali was able to take every punch Foreman threw at him. Ken Norton broke his jaw in the second round and he went the distance without ever being knocked down. Ali would beat Tyson by wide unanimous decision. He would beat Rocky Marciano easily as well.

Very tough question. Ali, was way way better in terms of a career. For that short window Tyson was the champ, I don't know if Ali could have beaten him.

Tyson was extremely skilled early in his career. He just got away from all that and became a head hunter. That wasn't when he was in his prime though

Ali could fight any style and win. He could go all out and maintain or he could slow down wear you down and punch. He was smart enough to win a fight on points if he felt like the risk for a knockout was to great while he still had tremendous knock out power of his own. He was alot tougher than most younger fans realize. Joe Frazier (might have been Ken Norton) broke his jaw early in a fight and he never missed a beat. Most fans today have no comprehension of how internationally famous Ali was in his prime (dude had his own cartoon at one time). 3rd world countries without tv's or radios knew Ali. He literally couldnt go anywhere on the planet and not be recognized.
