Hope the Kings and Rangers stay in their holes, since we have first-round draft picks from both. I doubt the Rangers will, but I actually think the Kings might. They really weren't that great last year at all until the playoffs, which makes me think it might have been a fluke. Then you also have the fact they won the Cup, so there's a possible hangover there... wouldn't shock me if they miss the playoffs.

Caps, Rangers, Kings, Canes, and Flyers
Rangers are the most likely of those mentioned to recover. They've played two of the best teams in the East to start in a back to back, so there was a decent chance they'd start off 0-2. Since they're going right into another back to back, they could end up starting the season 0-4, and I'd still say they can dig themselves out.
Kings are overrated. Everyone has been so awestruck over that playoff run to remember they were the 8th seed.
Both Caps and Canes look worse than hot garbage right now.
But it's we've still got some hockey to play, plenty of time to find new goats

Kings aren't over rated. They're without Greene and Mitchell, and just got back Kopitar. They'll get their shite together soon. Sucks that Greene is out for the season likely.

Officiating has to get better
anyone watching that Chicago-Stl game, has to be wondering, what the hell are they calling.
2 really bad calls, led to 2 PPG's.
Blues saw this in Nashville, and Preds got some really bad PPG calls, 1 led to a Nashville goal.
I never blame the refs, but it's getting silly, the calls against the Blues. The interference call on cole?? And the call on Tarasenko?
Any other teams, getting worked by the refs, early? In Detroit game, there were 2 bogus calls on each team. NHL officiating has always been putrid, but this is getting silly.

Ribiero got a 10 minute game misconduct for questioning the refs. He got high-sticked twice, including once that drew blood, and he sort of lost his composure. Caps were gonna lose anyway, but the missed high sticks were ridiculous. It's the easiest call in hockey.

Canucks supposedly have a deal for Luongo. Wonder where?

Another NooB question: I've read & heard the above statement quite a few times. Why is it assumed that Dallas will be the team that relocates to Seattle? Does the owner have ties there?

The new owner is from Vancouver. Also, Dallas has pretty weak attendance. Not as bad as Phoenix or Miami, but it's not good.
Posted on 1/23/13 at 3:16 pm to Baloo
but attendance was only weak b/c the team sucked and Hicks had literally stopped promoting the team in the area.
When they were halfway decent and actually reaching out to the community attendance was fine.

I agree. But they've gotta turn stuff around. In the past year and a half, the Stars have let the following players go:
James Neal, Brad Richards, Mike Ribiero, and Steve Ott
They have replaced them with:
Goligoski, Derrick Roy, Jaomir Jagr, and Cody Eakin.
And now Jamie Benn is holding out. That's an incredible talent drain in 18 months, with a fairly mediocre return. OK, I give 'em a pass on Richards because that was entirely on Hicks. But the rest of it is still talent going out of Dallas. If Benn leaves, too, this team has squandered a whole lot of offensive talent without even a playoff appearance to show for it. The Stars need to start winning. Now.

2-1 baby!
I agree though, it would really tick me off if they can't get Benn back.
Jagr has played well so far at least.

quote:The refs have been terrible thus far & are deciding too many games! The Flyers have gotten some of the worst calls I've ever seen. End of Pitt game the worst tripping I've ever seen called with 1 min left in regulation of a 1 goal game! Not 1 but 2 good goals disallowed against Buffalo (phantom goalie interference & a ref too damn lazy to skate one stride to see a lose puck trickle into the net)
Any other teams, getting worked by the refs, early?
And now we get to host the Rangers tonight who the Flyers couldn't beat last year. & tonight Flyers are without Hartnell & Schenn (suspended 1 game for Charging that was never called in game but Shanny suspends him anywasy) & Briere & Foster & Rhinaldo!
Rangers went to OT last against Boston & won, so we got this tonight!
Let's Go FLYERS!

Gaborik's hat trick goal in OT was sick
Posted on 1/24/13 at 8:17 am to WicKed WayZ
Goal of the year so far, once you consider context. Hitting a puck out of midair on the rebound into the net is pretty sick.

Jackets crashed back down to earth last night. Team isn't talented enough to get away with efforts like that.
